Working Christmas

Let me know when u build your self a 10 sec daily driver street car.... Let me know when you assemble a motor to handle 35 psi of boost, let me know when you build a motor to handles 350% the power than it left the factryw with.....O ya I used modern technology via a laptop to tune my timing and fuel maps. I don't need a shop or a tuner I do it myself. Good job tryna make me look dumb, if u only knew how well know I am in the modern technology tuning game where i come from.

Well gee whiz. I didn't realize we were talking about something straight out of Street Outlaws. I thought you were pining for the days of Volvo P-1800's and Citroen 2-CV's as mentioned in the Jalopnik article (neither of which is a 10 sec daily driver street car).

My bad. Go find a Z06 to embarass.

There's not a remote chance I'd ever work christmas or thanksgiving. I'd book off first. Those days are for family and they already have my Christmas eve.

I go out there and bust my tail every day I work, that's what I signed up for..as most of us here do. I know the kids are awaiting their presents on Christmas day and we are here for that primary purpose through peak.

But for the upper management to sit home on Christmas day, with their family, watching their kids open presents knowing that because of their poor planning we are being asked to leave our families to work on Christmas morning, I have lost a ton of respect for this company just for the act of posting lists to work on Christmas.

Again, they knew Christmas was happening on the 25th, and that it was on a Friday.

Last time I checked, there were gas stations, 7-11's, and some movie theaters open on Christmas day.

In the past, if it wasn't delivered, they got it after Christmas....back when this company had more of a backbone.

You pick up the phone, and call in. If they don't answer, call another center. If they don't answer, you call your sup, if they don't answer, you text your sup. You document your calls if they say you were a no call no show. I'm not disgruntled, I'm being with my family on Christmas...and everyone here should also.

Any person expecting us to deliver a package on Christmas day, any company that expects us to deliver on Christmas day, and even our own company to expect us to work on Christmas day, can go piss the eff off.

There are many things in life about which I am curious.
There are many things in life I am looking forward to experiencing after 35+ years behind the wheel of a package car.
Being a peak helper for minimum wage is not one of them.
Exactly.

If you have to come back to ups after retiring as a driver, and spend your first year retired as a "helper", that's just pathetic.

Life is short and there are many things to experience. That should not be one of them. When you hang up your Browns, let it go. Travel, take up a new hobby or in Dave's case, get a girlfriend.

You might as well stay a driver and work for better money.

Turns out our center manager misspoke regarding the pay rate for Christmas Day. It is NOT triple time. It is holiday pay plus time and a half, with triple time after 8 hours.

deep down inside I really do not care
My supervisor told me tonight that she got an e-mail suggesting that all management should be ready to deliver on Christmas Day. That's ridiculous that anybody in this company would be asked to work Friday.
I'll be on the lookout for supervisors delivering on Christmas. My son is grown and he will be out of town so......I'll be looking for brown trucks with grievance forms in hand.

my kids are grown,Christmas day really is just a day to sleep in for me.I;d rather come in and work than see one of the lower seniority drivers (with small kids) forced to work

I agree. My daughters live out of state, my wife is off right now and is spending Christmas with them. If there is a sign up sheet, I'll work. Just be surfin porn otherwise.

We have to sign up sheets. One for part time and one for full-time.
The only reason they have them up is in case they can't handle the air on Xmas eve.

No way in hello-kitty should the wheels on brown go round on Christmas Day. I don't care if the CEO of Amazon said UPS is the sole reason your packages are late.

If UPS wants to run packages on Christmas Day,management should be forced to do ALL OF THE WORK. And I would file on Monday for supervisors working.
If I were a scheduled pickup, any shipper I saw running on Christmas Day would be losing my account.
