Working during Break - a Proposal

You gotta be cruel to be kind, in the right measure

I work Preload. Many of the new hires and old timers work during break which breaches the contract. Them working during break means we get hit with a hundred of smalls/packages as soon as break ends; causing misloads and blow-bys which I've gotten written up for. Our union stewards are useless, apparently our hub paid off the local.

My proposal; if someone works during break or otherwise violates the contract -- we kick them out of the union. Although it may seem minor, working through break undermines our union, makes everything harder for everyone, and allows the company to take advantage of us. It goes against the concept of unions. Why even have a union if we allow this? We need to enact counter-measures that bypass everything else if this union is worth anything.

And that includes drivers. Many of you are working during lunch and sorting your truck an hour before start time. That isn't right, it goes against everything a union stands for. If we all don't stand our ground this profit machine takes advantage of us. You have to draw a hard line and place checks-and-balances. And even if the union is bull:censored2:, as it seems to be, we can change that.

You guys wonder why Hoffa was elected. Well did any of you bother to do something for part-timers? It's a miserable job and miserable people don't vote.

That would, in essence, be firing them, in non RTW states.

Grieve the write up.

We have had drivers grieve that management is letting people work before start time, management comes down hard for a couple weeks, and everything goes back to the way it was.

Usually mad folks are the rabble rousers that vote people out, not the opposite.

The idea is to get them to support the union. I don't expect anyone to get fired over working through break or otherwise violating the contract. But we need to draw a hard line so they stop submitting to management. It's a step in the right direction.

if they knew they'd get fired or lose their membership over working during a 10 minute break -- would they? I doubt it. And in case I didn't mention; these people work during break every single day. Easy when you make $30/hr maybe but my foot is screwed up and I need that break.

If your stewards are as useless as you say, contact the union hall directly.

People who work through break are only robbing themselves. Don't let it affect you.

Are any of these people working through break junior to you in seniority?

No.

He got more votes than the other guy.

I'd hope so but am not so sure.

Are you a nazi?

Yes, and we're why Trump was elected.

Canada is the reason Hoffa got elected. If it was just the US, his ass would be gone.

Oh I see. Leave it to the leafs. Also, since when did we have multi-national unions? Seems stupid to me. Off hand, Canadians are paid $24/hr after 4 years part-time.

Good point. Explains why we're treated poorly as well. Canadian part-timers are paid twice as much and they're given a vote. If Hoffa loses support he can just invite a million Chinese into the union. Globalization is wonderful, isn't it?

Are you part-time? National socialists are mis-understood, we mainly stand for the idea that socialism works in small homogeneous nations but otherwise support the free market.

It's popularly known as a race thing but no, WW2 was about the Jews and Germany's right to defend itself. They've been kicked out of European nations over 200 times. Right now my inter-racial girlfriend was called a Nazi because she agreed with a town in Costa Rica that is trying to kick the Jews out as they refuse to interact with the locals.

I love the Jews, my in-laws work at the Federal Reserve, I just want what's best for western civilization. Regardless, I'd be surprised if I'm not banned for this drunken truth.

I was part time for 10 years. If you're getting treated unfairly, look in the mirror

So you don't have more seniority than a new hire, but are versed in contractual language and are purposing we kick these people out of the Union?.....

......to what end?

I was going to suggest that you file for the time anybody junior than you who worked while on break.

I wasn't referring to the new hires. 2 specific people I had in mind that always work during break that have been there for 20 years. The new hires are hit or miss. Sorry for the confusion.

Why would you think you would be banned for your beliefs?
I have always found that @cheryl and @tonyexpress firmly believe in freedom of speech. As long as you follow the TOS you shouldn't have issue.

Generally Nazis and talk about the Ashkenazi are instantly censored on most websites.

The new union steward is buddies with management. I've complained a few times and it doesn't matter. For example, they moved me on a set after a new hire was on it for an hour then at the end of the shift they pulled me out and had me do EREGS+reentry. At least 50 pieces made it to that set after they pulled me out and I was written up for it the next day. I explained all of this to my center manager and the union steward during disciplinary meeting but it made no difference.
