FedEx, UPS face ‘shipageddon’ with potential shortfall of 7 million packages a day over holiday season – NBC News

With the holiday season rapidly approaching, delivery services are bracing for what some are calling “shipageddon,” with a potential shortfall of as many as 7 million packages a day.

UPS and FedEx have told some of their shippers that they have already reached most of their capacity, according to The Wall Street Journal.

That shortage could mean up to 7 million packages a day between Thanksgiving and Christmas could face delays, Satish Jindel, president of ShipMatrix software and consulting provider, told NBC News.

Black Entrepreneurs Day Presented by Chase for Business Announces New Partnership With UPS & Addition of ‘Flipping the Box Segment’ – AP News

Daymond John, founder and CEO of FUBU and co-star of ABC’s four-time Emmy Award-winning show, Shark Tank, has the country buzzing about his forthcoming Black Entrepreneurs Day presented by Chase for Business.

Today, alongside UPS, the event unveils a new addition to the show – Flipping The Box Presented by UPS. The segment will put Daymond in the hot seat for the only time during Black Entrepreneurs Day, as he is interviewed by a UPS executive. Gerard Gibbons, UPS President of Small and Medium Business and U.S. Marketing, will interview Daymond about his entrepreneurial journey and the lessons other entrepreneurs and small business owners can learn from his success.

UPS to raise China-US peak surcharges again after lowering them 2 weeks ago – Supply Chain Dive

  • UPS will raise peak surcharges on shipments from mainland China and Hong Kong to the U.S. starting Oct. 25, after it lowered surcharges on Oct. 4. The new surcharges will last until further notice, according to an update from the carrier.
  • Surcharges on shipments from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam are remaining steady since surcharges more than tripled on Aug. 30; UPS has not announced any planned decreases to these rates.
  • UPS Worldwide Express Freight from Europe to the U.S. and North America will increase from 34 cents to 91 cents per pound starting Nov. 1. All other international shipment surcharges remain at levels set back in April, until further notice.

UPS bringing $60 million in investments to Madison County, state – WLBT

The world’s largest package delivery service is making a major investment in the city of Ridgeland and the state.

United Parcel Service is planning to invest $60 million across the state, including a large chunk of it on a new “package car center” in Ridgeland, according to minutes provided by the Mississippi Business Finance Corporation (MBFC).

The package car center will be located on 200 W. Marketridge Drive in Ridgeland, right off of Highland Colony Parkway.

A spokeswoman with UPS confirmed that the company had purchased property along the parkway, but would not provide details of plans.
