UPS driver taken hostage in San Jose was covering for co-worker on vacation – ABC 7

The UPS driver who would have been behind the wheel during Thursday’s hijacking, police chase and deadly stand-off in San Jose spoke exclusively to ABC7 News.

A co-worker tells ABC7 News, the driver held at gunpoint was filling in for another worker who was on vacation.

On Thursday afternoon, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies and San Jose police officers were present by the dozens. They chased two armed suspects through San Jose.

According to SJPD, Joanna Mae Macy-Rogers and another suspect, who was later shot and killed by police, hijacked a UPS truck, held the driver hostage, and forced a slow police chase and standoff.

Co-Worker saves life of man she’s never met – News Channel 5

Woman donates kidney to co-worker

The brown cardboard boxes pass through the hands of Mark Hudson at a dizzying pace, one after another headed to all corners of Tennessee. If only the contents of one of them contained the kidney Mark needs to save his life.

The sounds from the roaring conveyor belts inside this Franklin UPS shipping facility are often so loud it’s near impossible for workers here to talk, let alone carry on any kind of meaningful conversation. Which is why, until recently, most of Mark’s colleagues didn’t know that this 55-year-old man needed a kidney transplant, or he may die.

“I’m just worn down. I’ve been trying to hang in there for the last year and a half but I’m drained and I have no energy,” Mark says as he stands in the narrow space between shelves, packing boxes in the back of a brown UPS truck.

UPS Ready To Help Love Bloom Worldwide On Valentine’s Day

  • Last-minute sweethearts can ship as late as Feb. 13
  • Use promo-code “EASY” to save up to 40%

We might be in a digital age, but, when it comes to the year’s sweetest holiday, an emoji-filled text just won’t do. That’s why UPS (NYSE: UPS) is gearing up its global logistics of love network to deliver an estimated 89 million flowers in time for Valentine’s Day.

The projection, an increase of one million from the number of flowers delivered in 2018, means about nine million pounds of blooms will crisscross the globe in time for Cupid’s big day. To ensure these precious flowers arrive at peak freshness, UPS shepherds the shipments from colorful growing fields in Latin America through the Miami International Airport, where UPS is one of the largest air cargo carriers, to final recipients in less than two days. UPS has added 50 extra flights during this period to handle what is expected to be more than 517,000 bloom-filled boxes.

New Agreement Covers Over 1,400 Mechanics and Related Classifications

UPS aircraft mechanics and related employees at UPS Air Cargo have voted to ratify their newest contract with the company. The contract, which becomes amendable on November 1, 2023, makes UPS Air Cargo mechanics the highest-paid air cargo mechanics in the country by a wide margin.

“We knew if we stuck together and stayed committed to protecting the pay and benefits we’ve earned over decades of hard work, we’d do what many thought was impossible and win big for our families, the future of our company and our customers,” said Teamsters Local 2727 President Tim Boyle. “This contract does just that, along with raising standards throughout the aviation industry.”

Some of the improvements in the contract include an immediate 17.72 percent pay increase, raises each year resulting in a 32.61 percent increase in pay from current rates by the end of the contract and the protection of an unparalleled health care package with no premiums.
