Teamsters......the enemy?

Discussion in 'UPS Discussions' started by want to retire, Sep 23, 2012.

  1. Yes, I'm a Teamster-for 30 years. However, I'm 180 opposed to probably 100% of their politics. I don't like the local(local). I'm not a Democrat, commie, socialist, liberal, gay or other myriad fringe groups. And yet, my dues go directly against my very being. I'm paying to cut my own throat. Yet, you have the whole contract thing and getting your job back.......I mentioned this to a fellow feeder driver the other day and he's pretty much quit talking to me(a quasi BA wanna be). I've been eyeing that $70(whatever it is)dues and pretty much figure I'd be sold down the river by my local if anything ever happens as they have shown to be very punitive against anyone who has a chance to take away their big suv's and plush gig. I'm fully vested and if, I'm walked out the gate.......I'm ready? BTW-I happen to like alot of the fellow teamsters. Like them personally. Although the ultra teamster all or nothing guys.......can be real a-hole, forget who pays your fat salary....forget where you came from types. Thanks.

So do you believe you are a Republican?

  4. I'm really hoping for a regime change.

  5. Not really. I'm not religious. Nor fanatical. Just American.

WTR has more time in the restroom than you have on the job.

He made some very good points in his post.

The Union is not the end-all/be-all a lot of you make it out to be.

Remember, if you did not have a union we would not be making money we are making today, benefits and so on. If you beleive that UPS wants to pay you all this money, and benefits and so on. at the kindness of there heart. You are mistaken..........

You wouldn't be making $31 + and hour and have some of the best health insurance which is free, have a pension, Etc if it wasn't for the Union. The Union isn't perfect but it's a lot better than the alternative ask those Fed Ex drivers about there pay and benefit packages they get.

You can bash the Union all you want but I would bet that very few of those that have a problem with the union and are making $31 hr are leaving before they can retire and can collect there pension.

You're tired and have earned the right to be.
The apathy that has infected OUR union didn't begin your generation, but must end with mine.
Retire and enjoy the fruits of the labors of others...and take UpState with you.

I didn't read anything like that in the OP's post.

I agree nothing is perfect, not even upstate as much as he would like to think so but if you see how greedy and down right incompetent management is you would see that a job like this could not go on without a union.

...which in itself is greedy and incompetent...

Case in point---our union local is whining about how broke we are yet they go out and buy a 75th anniversary Teamsters license plate bracket and decal for every union hourly in the building---they put each of them in an addressed manila envelope along with a letter from the union--over 1/2 of them are still in the box--how much did all of that cost?

I didn't read it as suggesting we get rid of the union, or that the union didn't provide us with a great wage and benefits.
We all know it most certainly did.
The OP seems to me to be worried about the direction the union is taking.

All I see in the myriad of threads like these, is apathetic posters with a penchant for identifying problems without any desire to actually suggest a solution.

I'm surprised you are posting in a thread that requires more effort than Googling pictures of kittens.
