Teamsters......the enemy?

Well, if you are any of the listed groups(I am not).........generally left-wing types(I am not). The teamsters support Democrats(generally) and therefore all the rest of it. And yes, I see Obama(therefore Democrats) on Teamster magazine etc.(therfore my dues). Anyone with a general idea of current politics should be able to understand the connection. Clear?

It is unclear for me. Sorry if I am being dense. Would you be so kind to answer my questions in my previous post? I would genuinely appreciate it. Thanks, DH

What does someone being gay have to do with the Teamsters?

I consider it a fringe group aligned with Democrats(generally), therefore supported by the Teamsters. Other than that.......nothing. Note: there were many other groups listed. Most of those groups proudly and loudly align themselves with Democrats....fact.

You wouldn't be making $31 + and hour and have some of the best health insurance which is free, have a pension, Etc if it wasn't for the Union. The Union isn't perfect but it's a lot better than the alternative ask those Fed Ex drivers about there pay and benefit packages they get.

You can bash the Union all you want but I would bet that very few of those that have a problem with the union and are making $31 hr are leaving before they can retire and can collect there pension.

Very true you are........ those days are over. The union has peaked. I believe it's all you downhill from here

...which in itself is greedy and incompetent...

Case in point---our union local is whining about how broke we are yet they go out and buy a 75th anniversary Teamsters license plate bracket and decal for every union hourly in the building---they put each of them in an addressed manila envelope along with a letter from the union--over 1/2 of them are still in the box--how much did all of that cost?
Perhaps if you logged off from BrownCafe for a couple hours on the second Saturday of the month, you would know. Just saying, and this is not (my typical) slam on you, but if more people got involved, oh never mind.

Other sociopolitical issues not withstanding, and only basing my political affiliation with job security, then yes as a Teamster, I align myself Democrat. Republicans offer nothing. The idea that by cutting corporate taxing would improve the economy is asinine. As well as promoting the "right to work" as a workers rights issue. Please. Call me naive, but I am pretty sure at this point UPS would love legislation that would break up Unions, and allow them to walk away from it all.

What you don’t seem to understand is that the Union exists not just for you.
The Teamsters are made up from all types of people with many different beliefs and backrounds. All that matters is that we stand together to try to make things better for us than if there was no Union. You don't have to agree with your officer’s positions, aline with their politics or vote how they suggest.
It is sad that after all this time you now believe the same entity that exists to help you is somehow your enemy. How would you have faired without a Union?
Have you ever participated in any way to change what you do not agree with? Do you go to Union meetings? Have you ever run for steward or office in your Local? Do you vote? Have you ever volunteered at your Local? If your answer is no then how can you complain?

No, the politics of the Union matter more than me having this job. You read that right. I do vote. I have voted against the current regime every time. And yes, not "somehow" the enemy.....I don't like them and believe I would not be fairly represented if necessary. Selling out what I consider my American way(I'm talking about commies, liberals, socialist etc.) demands the highest resistance. Lastly, if all that truly mattered was being in the Union........why is it commie, socialist, liberal Democrat?

A few questions.
How close are you to retiring? I'm fully vested with 30 years(plus)
What part of the country is your pension in? central
Will you need to supplement your pension? absolutely
How will you be "walked out the gate"??? Any number of ways....who knows? you know fired.
How are you "paying to cut your own throat? You will be receiving a pension, right? I'm not a commie, socialist, liberal Democrat. If I'm a teamster my dues goes to those causes. Well, I've been promised a pension....we'll see....I know people who have had theirs cut in half.
How can your union sell you down the river?? It's pretty tough to get fired from UPS and have it stick. I have witnessed a fellow driver fired for an accident that should not have been. Why? he was a political enemy of the regime. They are very punitive against anyone trying to take away their fat cat lifestyle. If any of my money(union)(it does) goes to commie, socialist, liberal, Democrat causes.....it is destroying the very essence of America.

Come work for Big Republican Fred S over at Express, you'll change your tune pretty fast about why the teamsters union supports Dems.
Loss of our traditional pension, millions donated to republicans to keep us under the railway act, significantly less pay/benefits.......

Union members who vote republican are hipocrates, reaping all the benefits of the hard working union lobbying efforts while they sit back and complain about minorities, gays and the union.....
Quit and work for a non union company if your beliefs are that strong.

First......no one has "complained" about gays or minorities. It has simply been pointed out that they "generally" make up the Democrat party(amonst others). Now, I have a better idea......let's get rid of the commie, socialist, liberal Democrats that run the Teamsters? The commie, socialist, liberal left-wing has a whole other agenda that I DO NOT SUPPORT! I am unwilling to whore out America for a paycheck. NEGOTIATE MY CONTRACT.....that's it. Leave the commie stuff to the Chinese etc.

Whenever I'm in a conversation and someone starts ranting about "commies" that's my cue to say "So, how bout those Redskins?" and start looking for the door.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts.

If obama gets re-elected "whoring out" will be the least of our worries.
Agreed. This election we have to vote to save our country, not to support the union.
Don't listen to the scare tactics. Democrats are no more our friends than Republicans.

My father's face was red for a while during Reagan's airport fiasco.
