Welfare

Ok.

If that's what you want.

I just was thinking that it's easier to phase them of welfare, than cutting it off cold turkey.
Nah, cold turkey is the way to go. Entitlement benefits have been propping up the profits of corporate america and the agriculture industry for too long, time to cut off the moochers.

Wouldn't the fact that you don't pay income tax on the value of your employer provided health insurance also be a form of welfare?

APNewsBreak: 9,000 Mainers lose food stamps under new rules

AUGUSTA, Maine — More than 9,000 Maine residents have been removed from the state's food stamp program since Republican Gov. Paul LePage's administration began enforcing work and volunteer requirements late last year, officials said.

The number of people that have been dropped from the program has exceeded even the administration's expectations.

About 12,000 adults who aren't disabled and don't have children were in the program before Jan. 1. That number has dropped to 2,680 this month .

Since October, healthy adults without children have been required to work at least 20 hours a week, volunteer or participate in a work-training program to continue receiving benefits in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program after three months. It's the result of the administration's decision to no longer seek a waiver for the federal requirement, which it had used since 2008.

Once someone loses their benefits, they're ineligible for assistance for three years.

Kind of a deceptive statement.
In 2018 people will start paying taxes only on the portion of employer contributions that exceed $27,500 for a family plan, and that threshold is tied to inflation.
But you knew that of course.
A $27,500 tax break sounds a lot like a welfare benefit to me.

Not paying a tax is not welfare.
Receiving funds when you did not perform a service, provide a good or contribute taxes to receive the funds is welfare.

A rule that exempts certain income from taxation is a form of welfare. Health insurance is part of the compensation package, and is not being taxed.

Would that be because it benefits you, or do you believe that everyone, regardless of income, should be allowed to exclude $27500 worth of income from taxation if they pay for their own health insurance?

A tax break that only affects a portion of the population can be easily construed as 'welfare' for those affected by said tax break.
