Monday Q&A: UPS driver celebrates 25 accident-free years – Modesto Bee

Brian Edwards has been driving for 25 years without an accident. That may not seem all that impressive, until you learn that Edwards is a delivery driver for United Parcel Service, putting in up to 140 miles per day on the road.

For his years of accident-free driving, Edwards, 48, was honored with membership into the UPS Circle of Honor. He’s in fairly exclusive company – of 11,198 drivers in California, 722 are in the Circle of Honor, according to UPS.

Edwards, who will celebrate his 26th year with the company in April, credits attentiveness to other drivers and his employer’s strong safety program for his driving success. The Oakdale resident works out of the UPS delivery center in Ceres.

United Parcel Service matches lowered expectations for 4Q profit, tops revenue forecasts – US News and World Report

Higher spending to gear up for the crush of holiday-package deliveries pushed fourth-quarter profit down 61 percent at UPS and the company gave a tepid outlook for 2015.

The results were roughly in line with the lowered expectations that UPS set two weeks ago, when it warned that profits during the latter part of the year would disappoint.

CEO David Abney said Tuesday that the company will control costs and raise prices this year, including surcharges for residential deliveries on peak days. UPS is sticking to its long-term targets for higher earnings, he said.

UPS employees put out blaze after package catches fire: Secaucus officials – NJ . com

A small package caught fire around 9:30 p.m. while on a conveyor belt at the UPS processing facility at 493 County Ave., according to Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli, who is also part of the town’s volunteer Fire Department.

UPS employees had already extinguished the fire when Secaucus volunteer firefighters arrived, Gonnelli said. Company spokesman Dan Cardillo says UPS has designated first-responders who are trained in safety procedures.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials believe the contents of the package may have been a major contributing factor, Gonnelli says.
