UPS Expands Two Houston-Area Buildings

Extra package processing capacity combined with added pickup and delivery services will address volume growth.

UPS® (NYSE: UPS) today announced expansion projects for two Houston-area distribution centers. UPS’s Mykawa and Conroe facilities will increase delivery capabilities to address anticipated customer needs connected with peak holiday shipping demand.

“Demand for UPS services in the Houston-area continues to increase,” said Craig Wiltz, president of the Red River District which is comprised of Texas and Oklahoma. “Expanding the distribution capabilities of these buildings is one way that we are continuously keeping pace with the growth of our customers’ businesses.”

UPS Statement About Shooting Incident Near Birmingham, AL

Jefferson County (Ala.) Medical Examiner’s Office Confirms Identities

UPS has been advised by the Jefferson County (Ala.) Medical Examiner’s Office that it has identified the three people killed during a shooting incident at a UPS facility outside Birmingham, Ala., on Sept. 23. In addition, we can confirm the families have been notified.

Doug Hutcheson, a resident of Odenville, Ala., was a driver supervisor and joined the company in 1999. He was 33 years old.

Brian Callans, a resident of Birmingham, Ala., was a business manager and worked for UPS for 26 years. He was 46 years old.

Kerry Tesney, 45, of Trussville, Ala., a recently terminated UPS driver with 21 years of employment, also died.

UPS sends our condolences to the families of these three individuals. They have asked for privacy during this difficult time.

The safety and well-being of our employees is our primary focus. We are providing the families of the victims, along with the employees who work in this facility, with counseling and support.

UPS continues to cooperate with authorities in the investigation.

Over the past year, the six locations saw demand for 3D print continuing to increase across a broad spectrum of customers. This upward trend is in line with the 3D print industry, which also experienced rapid growth. In fact, the 3D print service provider sector increased by 21 percent last year, according to The Wohlers Report 2014.

UPS Begins Hiring for 2014 Holiday Season

UPS (NYSE: UPS) announced that it expects to hire between 90,000 – 95,000 seasonal employees to support the anticipated holiday surge in package deliveries that will begin in October and continue through January 2015.
