Economists disagree with you. Google mortgage interest deduction economics and you'll get several articles that explain the problems with it better than I can. Basically it's extremely regressive, the bigger your mortgage the bigger your tax subsidy. It alters the true cost of home ownership which affects home prices. If you can afford a $2 mil home you don't need government assistance on that mortgage.

I believe the deduction is phased out based on income.

How does your tax return affect home prices? When a person buys a home, the seller has no idea the buyer's tax situation. Your interest deductions only affect your tax return or tax bill, NOT the price of the home as listed by the seller.

Wealthy people get to deduct charitable contributions as well. Hopefully they contribute a larger amount than middle class. Should the wealthy not get to deduct charitable giving?

Property taxes are a tax deduction. Wealthy people pay more property taxes due to the size of their home. Should property taxes not be a deduction?

They want to take everything away from the wealthy to redistribute to the poor until there's no incentive to get wealthy and everything falls apart. Then everyone will live equal i.e. poor except for the elite Leftists who run everything and thus deserve more. I've seen this movie before.

No. It's the wealthy that continues to take from the poor. A vortex of money to the top. It's a lot of why Trump won; he promised to change that dynamic. I doubt that will happen.

I am far from wealthy, but I strive to get there. So, why punish people that took chances and made it, through taking your hard earned money and giving it to the lazy. You sound like you are doing ok, not working everyday and kicking a soccer ball around with the girls.

Because the wealthy use their money and influence to keep you and me from becoming wealthy.

Just because I am not wealthy yet, I don't think it's anybody's fault but my own. I just haven't hit upon it yet, but I believe I will. I control my destiny nobody else. Excuses are for losers, if you are mentally and physically able to work, you can be rich. Too many crybabies in America today!

I can see you have been brainwashed. So NOBODY that is middle class today will be wealthy tomorrow?

You are full of crap. LOL
What do you consider wealthy? I assure you, you will never be mentioned with the Rockefellers or the Kennedys or the Bushes or the Kerry's or the Trumps. Is that simply because you haven't worked hard enough at it?

Same question to you as for oldfart.

Nope. Playing a rigged game.
Maybe people are too lazy and stupid to be wealthy. Might look in the mirror and see why you are still dependent on others to bail you out.

That is the Democrats way. Keep people poor and dependent of government assistance and then promise them the government will get them out. 3 generations later, many are still waiting to get out.

Come now. Trump "took chances"? Kerry "took chances"? The Koch brothers "took chances"?

In fact, it's the reason they make for not investing, the "uncertainty". That tells you all about their mindset. They are entitled to success. There is no losing and they have a government ready to bail them out if they do fail.

So...who bailed me out?
