Good leadership requires more than the ability to perform parlor tricks with Algebra.

I have been helping a 16 year old with Algebra homework all this school year, so I thought this was a story problem....

p = telephone prefix (not area code)
x = last four digits of telephone number

(((80p + 1) 250) + 2x - 250)/2 =

(20,000p + 250 + 2x - 250)/2 =

10,000p + x + 125 - 125 =

10,000p + x

For my phone number, um, 555-1234, this would be 5,550,000 + 1234 = 5,551,234.
