Some of these members are still working and posting all day. Look at their number of posts. They sit a lot.
Don't know how they do it. " Sit " takes on a whole new meaning when retired. No matter where you "sit", you will never "sit" in a seat that demands you get up 100-200 times a day and open a bulkhead door.

According to retirement mentioned package paperwork they still want you to fill it out if you are alive.

Yes, you do have to fill it out.

My point was, much like with married men under 35 who want to get a vasectomy, the spouse has to sign off it the member and spouse jointly decide to waive the 50% surviving spouse annuity.

It may actually make more sense to waive the annuity and use part of the monthly pension boost to purchase a term life insurance policy.

Term insurance is too high for me as I have high cholesterol and had a melanoma removed 10 years back..

Oh I point out all of the time when she's had such a "rough" week. That she only worked 30 hours all week. She may have had a rough day but not a rough week.
I use to try an explain to people; a driver can work at UPS for 30 years and never have an easy day. He may/can/will have a lot of smooth days - but may very well "never" have an easy day. SPORH: UPS Life's blood.
They always make sure you have a certain minimum (UPS minimum). ALWAYS!! The only times I had an easy day, was when I would volunteer to work holidays. But some drivers never worked those holidays.

Yep! In CA also. I think in many areas. It's almost eerie that the wife decides the direction of our pensions. I guess that's become the new "fair and equal".

Unfortunately, there are hourlies, both male and female, who would think nothing of leaving their spouse high and dry, hence the need for the spousal sign off.

Being home is a nice change. Wife always wants to be out, but she doesn't grasp the fact that I was never home. Or, maybe she does grasp that fact, because she's having a hard time dealing with me home all the time now.

That's why I always manage to get away from the house everyday--------that she is here. Its not that I don't love her--its because when we are both hanging around she isn't happy unless she is coming up with stuff "we" should do.

My wife had no problem at all signing off on the 50% plan. "Show me the money--now" was our battle cry. She has always been a very independent women and she would do just fine without my sorry butt being here.

When divorce time comes, there are very few women concerned with leaving you with much. The reality is, in most cases it's Dog eat dawwggg!! If you've been fortunate enough to have relationships with women who are concerned with only being fair. I say lucky you! You've lead a good life.
On a serious note. It's just the thought, the person who has worked the hours, has to get it approved by someone who hasn't put in 2 minutes of the 35 years of work. It's just the principal. My wife didn't even ask for it, but I just didn't feel right not leaving her "a little something something" (oohhhhh, if I could turn back the hands of time). I'm sure her and the pool boy will live a good life after I'm gone. She'll outlive me.

I always figured my wife's second husband could support her when I'm gone.

One note of info in retirement papers.. If you select spouse gets 50% annuity option when you die, and the unthinkable happens where your spouse dies first, then you will be kicked up to your full payout when you notify pensionpeople.

You are all fortunate to have made the decision yourself and with your spouse--I was an account manager and was forced out. I live my life to basically, drink the poison hoping "they" will die. I envy you for living a life and not allowing the company to define you.

Still smoking but taking chanting and 12 other pills day for COPD , high cholesterol and four herniated discs in my back. Had a standout in blocked artery last September and need new knees. Two biological kids and a stepwise who disowned me. Seven grandchildren ill never know. Mom in a home, age 90. So much for retirement. Now they threaten my pension. That's life.
