The wife and I snuck out to the woods at a house party one time and got it on in the dark. I still don't know if it was true or not but the host told us that his woodline was full of poison ivy. We went home and washed each other with Fels Naptha soap and wiped off with rubbing alcohol as best we could. Neither of us got it --

If I'm out in the woods I'm usually OK if I wash with soapy water when I get home that night. When I have trouble is when I'm camping out for a couple of days and can't wash thoroughly.
