My wife found this in our house today.
It's a Hellgrammite, the larvae stage of the Dobsonfly. It can bite you but is not poisonous.
Larval development can take from one to three years.
This one was about three inches long.
A better picture in it's natural environment, a stream.
We live on a creek but it is about 70 ft vertically down and about 200 feet walking.

I seldom fished nymphs or wet flies.
But, you should be out on a creek after dark when the Dobson flies are hatching.
They will scare the living bejesus out of you.
