The amazing thing to me is Islam was perhaps the most tolerant religion when it was initially formed. The Dhimma system was used to treat people fair, but has been perverted to the extreme.

Islam was tolerant when it was weak but that changed after it grew stronger.

It spread by the sword. Convert or die.

And if you or your father were Muslim if you try to convert to another religion the punishment is death.

Thanks for the Fox News tale, but no. The Sunni and Shi'a fought each other, but were far more tolerant of Jews and Christians than either groups were of each other

They allowed Jews to live but taxed them heavily for the right to worship in their own way.

Sunni and Shia schism was brutal from the beginning, I agree.

But if you look at the earlier vs later portions of the Koran you will see it changing from tolerant to militant.
