Actually, many people need the back seat for people. Contractors wanting to take their whole crew to a job and families with children come to mind. I traded my regular cab Tacoma recently for a double cab because grandchildren.

You need to get out more.

You can hardly get a simple work truck any more. Most new trucks cost as much (or more) than luxury cars.

You would be surprised. I've traveled two states away to bring back 80k+ pickups only because the buyer wanted a particular color scheme of the truck.

I wouldn't buy one like that, but people want them and the manufacturers are happy to sell them. The profit margins on vehicles like that are unbelievable.

Oh right, because he might have to help the in-laws move or haul a new kitchen for the wife. If he wants to convey status, impracticality outweighs simply the amount of money spent.
