No epa inspection’s here

you can drive any old :censored2: box that’ll move down the road

lots of cars for less than 4K
Same here. It's nothing to see a piece of junk driving down the road with a red rag taped over a broken tail light lens, or a car that has been driving on one of those little donut spare tires for weeks. We have a couple of used car lots that specialize in crap cars. Even the new car dealers have what they call the "back lot" where you can buy a real gem cheap before it goes to the crusher.

Usually the new car dealers quickly send that crap to auctions. They don't want it near their shiny new cars.

They dump them at wholesale auctions because people who don't understand what "as-is" means don't come back complaining.

That’s what they did in the past
All the big new car dealers have a lot
off to the side or across the street now days for stuff they would have sent to the auction in years past

Seven of us one time bought a "at one time" fancy Ford 9 passenger RV style Econoline for 300 bucks from the local Ford dealer. . The outside looked really nice but it had over 350,000 miles on it, the air didn't work and the tires were bald. We swapped tires with some good ones , drove it to the races in Iowa (500+ miles), drove it around down there for a week and then drove it home. Other than having to add water to it a couple of times and putting up with no air conditioning in Iowa in August we had zero problems with it. Back home we put the bald tires back on it and sold it for 500 bucks to some clown who was going to fix it up. We did see it driving around town for a couple of years after that.
