Why? People are idiots to agree to it. Owning a vehicle is as expensive as you make it.

I haven't bought brand spanking new in years. Lately I have to admit though, I have been seriously eyeing a 2020 Tahoe and a 2020 Ram. With all the packages and features, the cost is upwards of $60+K for either one. While I was shopping around, I found this 2016 KIA Sorento with very low mileage that I knew mama would like.

The owner was an old guy who towed it behind his RV and drove it around town when he snowbirded in Arizona. 19,000 miles and every service record ever completed. He wanted $13500 I handed him 120 hundred dollar bills and drove it away. She wanted a new Hyundai Tucson or Sante Fe, she got a Sorento with no payments...

Now, buying one of the newer vehicles does not seem so painful.

I can't see spending that kind of money just because a car is new. Wait until its a couple of years older and a lot cheaper.

I agree, that's like a 3rd of what my house is. Buying new is not what I really want to do. If I could find an 18 or 19 with what I want with mileage I want, I would scoop that up in a heartbeat. I usually prefer to buy a mildly used that has had the kinks worked out, recalls completed, and upgrades completed.

The only reason for thinking of buying new now is I figure if I bought new and paid it off in 5 or less years, I wouldn't have to by another vehicle for at least 15 years and wouldn't have to make any more payments. I could buy some little S* box at the end and drive it until I die.

My wife always gets a new vehicle I drive used beaters until they die.



We don’t trade in every few years though. She had the first car 10 years. This one I’d like to get 8 out of but at 3 years we’ve put 80k miles already. We do but new but justify it by using the vehicle to its full worth.

Once a car has lost most of its resale value you might as well drive it into the ground.

My Tahoe is my getting into the rough stuff while looking for a fishing spot, driving around in winter, former metal detecting, towing rig that I also use daily. I think I'm ready for a nice truck to handle all these tasks now though.

After I got the paint job done, and failing to locate an original ambulance box for the rear or an original troop carrier bed, I put a wooden slat bed on it and sold it for $35k.

When I was working at my first post retirement job one of my co-workers decided to trade in his perfectly fine Subaru for a brand new Subaru-----he was underwater on the first one and ended up rolling $9K in to the financing for the new one. $490/month for 84 months. His girlfriend also wanted a new car and is paying about the same per month for 84 months. Keep in mind that ours was a job that paid about $13/hr and was eliminated shortly after he took out the loan when they decided to outsource our department.

Woulda been the perfect rough stuff truck.

After I sold it, I came across a nice fire truck body that would have required some work and a new paint job that would have made it look utterly amazing but that's that way it goes. Just wish I had seen the fire body before I sold it. I was too preoccupied with trying to keep it military and had tunnel vision on it's possibilities.

I have never bought a car while on route but I pick up this sweet patio set from Martha Stewart Living that one of my customers has put out by the road. It retails for $250 and was practically brand new. It was a pain to work around until I got close to my condo to drop off.

So the question begs to be answered, after selling the condo, did you end up keeping the patio set after all?

I asked my realtor if we could add it to the deal for an additional fee but she said that they normally don't do that so, yes, I brought it down to the home.
