Constantly Being Asked To Work In Different Area

Based on our local rules.

If you request a transfer, your seniority goes back to 0. Unless you forcefully move from an area or shift then you are out of luck. Every time you asked to move your seniority reset. The only thing you maintain is your company seniority which is only good for scheduling vacations and/or in the event of a lay-off.

12 hours on one shift? Wish we had that.

What you inside guys do can affect a drivers day just as much as I can
If he would have strained something using his end range motion to REACH on this belt instead of shutting it off UPS would have said he didn't work safe. Of course an earlier start time and better staffing and coverage would also fix the problem. It's the ups way, squeezing blood from a turnip. You must work in a small decent run center.

The sort aisle in my building is a certifiable disaster. No way in hell am I going to reach to the other end of the belt to get a package all day. I'll put a half-stop on, and I'll stop the belt if things start falling off. I mean, I try to keep it running as much as I can, but if they add another unloader without giving us another sorter, what can you do? You don't get help unless somebody starts screaming on the radio "the belt is off, the belt is off!!" anyway.

Alright, so some people might hate me for saying this but, whatever it is you like doing the most? When they put you on that, do it like a fluxckin' ROCK STAR, champ. Then, when they move you to another spot, any other spot that you'd rather not be doing, do the bare minimum. Don't fluxck Schlitz up, but make it obvious that you're not the one for that spot and if they were to ask your opinion, it's really pretty obvious where you'd rather be [insert desired position].

You might feel like Schlitzy not putting in 100% just because you're not where you want to be, but after several years of preload, my brutha, I can only tell you one thing: your happiness is more important than your principle-- especially if you're in it for the long haul.

I'm sorta in the same boat as you OP.

Recently transferred to the day sort from twilight with 10 years PT seniority. Was on HVD for the past 4 years while working twilight and now I'm back in the trenches loading trucks. I'm fast so they move me around all over the place. It sucks but I'm planning on trying my luck with driving anyway so I'm just sucking it up until then. I would do what other people here are saying and just try and will yourself to work slowly until they leave you in the unload.

I can't agree with purposely slowing down. Work according to the methods, and grieve everything. If a supervisor breaks your jam, grieve it. If they're picking off, grieve it. If they're acting as a wall sweep, grieve it.

And make sure you have egress. At least one side of the trailer should be 100% clear from where you are all the way to the ladder of the catwalk, and the floor below the ladder of the catwalk should be completely clear as well. If you can't get out of your trailer, through the catwalk, onto the floor, and to a designated emergency exit without tripping over packages or walking like you're in a minefield, your egress is not clear. And that, not loading, should become your focus. They hate it when you do that. If that doesn't get you a one-way ticket to the unload, nothing will.

in our hub management has given up on making new hires work hard and try to rely on
the seniority employees to make up the slack. i can walk into the restroom at the end of the day
and see guys just hanging out in there trying to milk the clock for extra time instead of helping out
other areas. i see guys walk in 10 min late but still get the easy jobs, not sure how that works but i have
to "work as directed" right?

why are you still PT? aren't there any FT UPS jobs you're interested in?
I plan on going full-time holding out for inside/inside position. I have 2 young kids and I know driving would really strain my home life while they are young. My other job along with UPS suits my day better. Also my wife is a pharmaceutical buyer for a hospital and makes good money. Best part is she never went to college!

They fired a inside/inside employee a year back for stealing office supplies. Apparently in the past he had stolen porn magazines too lol. I bid on the position but I was out bid.

I've seen the same thing as far as the new hires having it way to easy, but also Ive seen them get thrown to the wolves. They really have slacked on the training for loaders. Most of them have no idea whats going on. Things got really upside down when we still paid $8.50 an hour starting. In the middle of summer there were so many people quitting it was really laughable.
