Also in NE , we have situations where Sr guys have bid back to package , then come back in summer for a bit and peak !!
They are still on the TTQ list , but are not on the feeder job list . They are considered a “borrow” and can’t bump any body currently in feeders !! They can come back on the biannual bid , or a retirement or new job !

Another advantage to not having classification seniority, senior guys don't feel like they're trapped in one job classification for fear of losing their seniority.

Just to be clear, everyone goes to non production training either at the same time or in seniority order. After non production week it's the driver's responsibility to go to DMV and get his/her CDL before finishing training. If someone already has their CDL then they go straight to production week. It's really not a big deal.
They go by class groups. No one rides in a UPS tractor (productive or not) until they have fully completed the class and obtained a CDL at the end of that training. Your permit is ONLY used for training outside of UPS . Are you a feeder guy?

If UPS is training you , that’s a different story ,
We get our learners permit on our own from the DMV,then train for non-productive week then production week if you pass that then test by our feeder manager if you pass that hour test(on-road,pretrip,etc.)you get a form to bring to the DMV and you get your CDL. Honestly it's quite a good deal.

Not sure what you're asking. Here you get your learner's permit before you go to your first week (non production) of training. if you pass that you go back to DMV to get your CDL. If you pass your CDL test then you go to your second week (production) of training. It's not uncommon for people to take 2-3 weeks to get their CDL after passing their 1st week of training. If you already have your CDL you can go straight to production week.

That’s awesome @Johney !!
I had to bid preload for a yr and went to the teamsters driving school , the teamsters had the DOT state trooper come to the school and test us ,the UPS feeder school at that time was not so good and had a high failure rate ,a lot of training supes heads rolled from that
