Most people are not historians and not interested in the development of the Western European Socialist Democracies in post-WWII.
They only see the financial problems in Western Europe with no insight of how they inched towards their current state.
The US has accelerated those same trends under Bush Jr and even more so under Obama while Western Europe is trying to curb their Socialism and become more like the US.
If Obama is re-elected the US and Western Europe may pass each other in their trending.
May do it as well if Romney is elected. :sad-little:

Are you saying that because Upstate gives the customers services that they don't pay for that makes him a socialist?

OK guys back on topic. Here's a question for Upstate(I know he said he was done)so who is getting credit for the pick-up? Surely not the other guy whose log it is on(who can't seem to make it there). Someone has to be stop completing it other wise wouldn't it show up as missed everyday? Why not have it moved to your log?

(unshun) The pickup is in the log of the driver who does the bulk of that commercial complex. It is not in my pickup log. I make a sweep in the late afternoon (5ish?) as a courtesy. I do not create an unscheduled pickup--I simply scan and add the pieces to one of my bulk pickups, such as the UPS Store. They do not get any revenue from this---it is just to provide an origin scan. There are times when I am running late when I just throw them in with the rest of the pickup pieces. The cover drivers do not do this nor do I expect them to--it is a courtesy that I provide. (shun)

It's called going "above and beyond", "going the exta mile", etc. Some of us don't have a problem with it. We don't think twice. We are rarely, if ever, called on it, and if we are it is not the huge problem you guys make it out to be.

I have been instructed before to add packages to another pickup's log. I can see how one would say "it's dishonest", but really? What gregious lie has been told? Why would LP investigating this, especially if the pkgs are scanned? Does the company whose count was inflated get charged more? The only repercussion from doing this is a driver gets proper credit for the pickup piece, as we get little-if any-credit for "special counts". (As an aside, Gamestop pkgs are not "special counts"-returns or internet shipments, so to add them to the special counts is, ironically, dishonest.)

I visit pickups multiple times in a day (however, gamestop is not one, unless they ask me to). I am not trying to impress anyone, and I doubt Dave is. I get a deep satisfaction from providing service "above and beyond" what is asked. It keeps the customer happy, which I hope will keep them as customers of brown; besides, hearing "Thanks for helping us out" never gets old.

I used to add additional pieces to other pickups. Then my dispatch sup asked me about miles I was travelling "to nowhere". Now I enter such pickups as "unscheduled pickup". I do not get credit for the pickup stop, but I do get credit for the pieces. More importantly, it shows on my delivery record, so it doesn't look like i am just trying to rack up miles.

Anytime someone hands you a pkg and their not a schedule pick up is a special count A. just because it's Gamestop has nothing to do with it. Also unscheduled pickups are not allowed at least in my center and you do get credit for unscheduled pickup. This is why they moved these pieces to special count A. Drivers were adding pickups for every pkg a customer handed them

.................. The only person you seem to be serving is a Manager at a store who doesn't mind getting a service for free, are you getting games out of this deal or something?

There is just no way Upstate is doing this for free games, come on now.

Never been instructed in the use of special counts "A, B, c, etc." . I currently use special count "A" of the return pkg is a NDA, and so I rarely use it.

We were instructed to add pieces to existing pickup stops and stop using unscheduled pickup for the same reason your center did, however they actually took away the time allowance for unscheduled pickups. The next day when I look at the over/under allowed report the pickup pieces are counted but the stop is not (although the DIAD does add the stop in your totals).

Special count pieces do not have the same allowance pickup pieces have, and so unless a piece is a return piece or internet shipment-the only items I have ever seen UPS actually say should go in special counts-I'll either make an unscheduled pickup if where I scanned of is important, or it gets added to another stop so as to get a scan and I get credit for the piece.

Anytime someone hands me a package it gets scanned in as a pre-paid under special counts. I don't worry about the allowance.

Does anyone have a good recipe for crow?

My PDS left a note in my slot today saying that our center is not meeting the compliance on the Gamestop pickup change and that as of Monday the pickup will be in my pickup log. I will make the pickup when I deliver and will continue to make a sweep in the afternoon, when possible. The cover drivers will make the pickup when they deliver.

Any employee at a GameStop has no control over a corporate deal between GameStop and ups. Work as directed, and if there is enough complaining from GameStop to their corporate office our contract with them might change.

I rep Upstate for posting this:
"Commendable that you posted this ... most of your detractors would have slinked off."

While many may not like Upstate, he is honest and speaks his mind.
This is not the first time I have seen him do this ... something few of his critics would do.

OK, he can be still be an irritating twit at times. :wink2:
