The last figures I saw said that it took $1.25 worth of fossil fuel energy to produce $1.00 worth of ethonol. Do a Google search and it could be an eye opening experience.

Does the $1.25 worth of fossil energy factor in the cost of the war in Iraq, or the huge military we maintain in order to secure our access to foreign oil? If that cost were paid at the pump instead of being passed on to future generations in the form of a massive deficit, the dollar figures you quote might be different.

I will agree that corn is a poor method of producing ethanol, but it is a start. And the reality is that over half the corn grown in this country is used for animal feed anyway....and the same animals can still be fed with the residues after the ethanol is distilled.

Like it or not, fossil fuels are running out. We can drill all we want but it is only delaying the inevitable.

Was up to $2.01gal, but is now back down to $1.93gal, which is what I paid for gas today. Sorry, no bike seat on the back of my Trek 1.2, for my sick daughter.:wink2:

$1.95 here in So. Me. What I'm surprised at is the cost of #2 heating oil. Last fall I paid $3.49 Per gallon, I'm getting a delivery tomorrow & i'ts DOWN to $1.64
