There is simply too much evidence to the contrary to even try and support this.
For starters, the USA has many, many more school deaths than the even more liberal Europe which has an even larger population.

It always comes down to who pays for it.
There are lots of questions related to your idea but it sounds like a decent knee-jerk reaction.
Overpaid school administrators take a cut in pay for protecting the kids. It's all about the safety of the children and teachers.. right? Then the ex-cop or military must go through an extensive mental evaluation including interviews with family members.

This is why the extremes on each side, especially the press, has no credibility.

Why would he be able to just walk into the school? At my grandkids elementary school, during school hours, you have to ring a buzzer which lets you into an enclosed entryway where you state your business into a speaker. There is a window where the sec. can view you.Then if the secretary oks you she pushes another button that opens the door to the office where you don't get through the final locked door unless you show some form of picture ID and get a hall pass sticker that has your photo on it. You have to wear that photo sticker in plain site. All other outside doors are locked 24/7. Most schools could be set up like this for very little investment.

Turn over the defense of the schools to the Dept of Education which could mandate their use in every school . Your school want Federal Funds then federal guards will be there. Thus these guards will be federal employees .
