Since 9/11, and terrorist plots and bombings in the UK and eslewhere, all borders have tougher security. I can't imagine one without a metal detector these days.

Look, I posted this yesterday, what's hard to understand ?
The UK had .06 per 100.000 population gun related deaths last year.
The US 6 per 100.000 ! That's 100 times as many !

Now , you think, some boat from Russia (the russian mafia), will make it all the way to the UK,speculation sell guns there for a huge profit speculation, probably $10.000 per handgun speculation, so criminals can go rob someone.speculation
I don't think so. or at all really.
If they have $10.000 to start with, they are unlikely to do robberies. Maybe they buy their guns with a coupon.
And if they want to actually kill someone, they can find cheaper ways and methods. Boring them to death?

Do you like spin a wheel or something to come up with these guess` of yours?

NOW, all they have to do is make sure everyone uses the border crossings.

You need to visit Europe first.
They don't have wide open space like North America does.
Germany for example has 80 Million population, and easily fits in Texas.
From the southern border to the northern border is less then a days drive (about 700 miles), from east to west, even less.

I would say most of the borders are fenced, be in by government or the farmers (property owners) themselves.
Nothing comparable to this huge land mass here. 593 people live per sq mile in Germany !
Canada it's around 8 per sq mile, the US 83.

When I lived there, even though cigs, even booze was more then half the price in France or Austria (lived only 60 miles from the border to France, 100 miles to Austria).
No one in their right mind would ever think of crossing the border undedected.
That has never came up in a conversation. It's basically impossible, and the punishments too harsh.
And, I lived there until I was 27. So, definitly in the age rage, where crimes of these kinds are done.

Once again your facts are wrong.

Virtually all nations in Western Europe have abolished border controls under the Schengen Treaty. There are no longer any checkpoints to pass through and residents of these nations no longer need passports when traveling between countries that are party to the Treaty. You can legally drive from Germany to France to Belgium to the Netherlands without ever having to stop.

There is a city right on the border between Netherlands and Belgium called Baarle-Nassau where the actual border will frequently go right thru the middle of a house or zigzag down the middle of a street. And there are "enclaves" and "exclaves" where small portions of a neighborhood will be in one country even though they are basically an island that is completely surrounded by the other country. Residents of these neighborhoods will often have a small flag decal on their front door to identify which country they are residents of. There are restraunts where the border cuts right thru the dining room with a line painted on the floor and depending upon the current tax laws in force in either nation the diners will sit on one side of the line or the other in order to get cheaper food. The police, fire department and mail delivery all freely cross the border as needed. Its rather bizzare.

You know what, you're right.
Things have changed since I left.

They did put that Schlengen law in place, in 2008, just over 2 years ago.
Never knew that !
Citizens can move freely across Europe.

Wow ! They are sure going advanced there !
Well, they have the same EU laws, so I guess it makes sense.

With your guns and drugs already making it illegally north.
We could never have those same free borders.

(before any feedback, yes BC, Canada makes good weed, even grows majic mushrooms, and meth labs are here, too, but Opium (herion) and other southern climate drugs do not grow here) !

Thanks Sober for making sure that we got the correct information. :)

The Schengen Agreement is a treaty was signed on 14 June 1985...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Agreement

Now your making it look like if Europe had no borders since 1985 !
That's not the case.
The treat was signed by 5 countries in 1985, and implemented 10 years later within those 5 countries.
Europe was still much dividend, and the EU was small (10 countries or less).
No Greece, no Czech Rep,(they signed Shengen in 2008), Crotia, Poland, and many more.
Other western countries didn't belong to the EU for a long time afterwards.
Ireland is the latest that joined, I think 2 years ago ? (but don't belong to the Schengen agreement).
They had to turn metric to make it into the EU !

Switzerland is still neutral, doesn't belong to the EU or Nato.

Canada begins freetrade with the EU starting Jan1st, 2012. 11 more months.

Because, I lived there from 1973-1987 !
Borders were borders back then.
Last visited year 2000, but didn't cross any borders.

I guess I didn't keep up with the info of what is happening in Europe.
I admitted my mistake.
I posted before I looked if any changes were made, since my time there.
And, I seen major changes did happen.

Without the internet, I would have never believed it !

There ya go, that's one way to downsize government: get rid of all border control personal !

hmmmm, I thought we were talking about smuggling guns into England, not Germany?
And NO, I do not need to go to the UK.

Now, why bring that up, while you were ahead ? England is not part of the Shengen agreement !
They aren't even a full member of the EU (they have Pounds, not Euros).

So, unless guns are snuck in thru some coastal area, somehow originating from Russia or some other non EU country with slack gun laws, England will have less and less guns in circulation. Pretty simple.

Pretty simple.

Yes you are. Come up with some hard facts not Google search assumptions. I doubt Russia has to be the supplier of guns to the U.K. as members of the E.U. are manufacturers of some of the finest handguns made. Italy,Austria,Switzerland, France, and yes even your beloved motherland Germany.

Unlike the Canadian unemployment system smuggling guns into the U.k. doesn`t need a rocket scientist to figure out.

You formed an opinion based upon inaccurate facts and flawed perceptions. We've all been guilty of that at some point.

But is it possible that some of your "opinions" about guns might also be inaccurate and flawed?

You admit that you have never handled or fired a gun. Perhaps you should take the time to do some impartial and unbiased research rather than allowing your opinions about guns to be formed by inaccurate facts and flawed perceptions.

The next time you are in the USA, I would suggest that you go to one of the public shooting ranges that allow people to rent guns for target practice. Maybe you could even take a basic firearms safety course and learn the facts about guns firsthand.

Knowledge is power. Ignorance isn't.

You forgot to remind him to check to see if the rental gun is loaded by looking down into the barrel and squeezing the trigger.
