guns

I think it has more to do with the attitudes of the residents vs. the guns. I have never shot anyone, yet.

Where I live (Alberta), you'll be lucky to find 1 out of 10 residents that were actually born here.
Immigration from all across Canada and the USA, and ofcourse those from overseas.

Brothers from other mothers. The residents of Hawaii are there to get away from the B.S. on the Mainland.

And that's why those States implemented those laws.
I'm not sure if the future will give more of the story and if it will be a success or not.
But, it's not like there are border patrols between states, - for all I care you could probably ship guns via USPS , UPS, or whatever into those States.
Hawaii on the other hand is different... not that accessible, and they enjoy 1 of the lowest murder rates (gun shootings and other crimes).
So, there ya go.

Myth: Gun control reduces crime
Fact: The U.S. government “found insufficient evidence to determine the effectiveness
of any of the firearms laws or combinations of laws reviewed on violent outcomes” 225
and also concluded in one study that none of the attackers interviewed was "hindered by
any law--federal, state or local--that has ever been established to prevent gun ownership.
They just laughed at
gun laws."

Seriously, it sad to say you are a democrat yet spit on the beliefs of the founding fathers.

PSST... ment, better look into what the founders really believed about guns. The original intent of guns wasnt to hold them at home. They were to be kept in the center of town, in a building, with the ammo separated by one floor. Gun powder was used back then.

The founders had no intentions of giving people automatic rifles and ammo that can penetrate armour.

Todays idea of guns is far removed from the founders original intent.

Todays gun freaks are men who never got over cowboys and indians as a kid. EGOmaniacs who live in fear, and wouldnt know how to defend themselves if given the opportunity. Gun owners are repeticiously sold the concept of fear, being afraid comes out in every explanantion ive seen on this thread.

"im gonna protect myself from intruders" "im gonna protect my family against carjackers" "im gonna protect myself from robbers"... blah blah blah,, no matter what the explanation, its all FEAR BASED.

The typical GUN owner doesnt describe the same America that I live in. I live in an America where I travel freely, live freely and dont have to keep my head on a swivel. Those that claim the have to sleep on a pistol to feel safe are the biggest babies of all.

If you cant even sleep in peace, how can you live in peace?

The FEAR basing of the GUN argument is for sissies, but it works as an effective tool to sell guns.

Its just too bad that those who live in fear and buy guns for "protection" only end up killing a family member or themselves.

I prefer not to live like a sissie.

Peace.

The rest of the world thinks otherwise.

Uhmm, TOS, I believe you are mistaken. With the citizens armed, we created the largest militia.

Why don't you find a website from 2011 or even 2010 ?
We're enjoying the lowest crime rate since the 70's !

It take decades for laws like that to have any improvements (like when people with guns pass away, or get too old and no longer need them).

Just like spending money on education or healthcare - don't expect results to be instantly.
If results are not instantaneous, then don't expect data to be recent!!

Like I said before, Americans are different.
You need to arm each and everyone of them to be safe on their own soil.
I hope you get new laws passed soon, that you can carry guns at all times, and even in the workplace.

Just like back then in the wild west - every American should be armed and ready to shoot at all times.
Why just protect your home ? Doesn't make sense.

I just read that in the old west cowboy times, 5 killings a year was an average # for a big town. Not the bang, bang, shoot 'em up stuff you're dreaming about.

Wow ! Only 5 killings ? Just 1 over the City of Calgary with 1.2 Million population.
or 3 less then Toronto with 2.5 Million population.

How big was that town ?

The rest of the world thinks otherwise.

Key word there is "thinks" not "knows". See, here in the U.S. we know a higher number of guns in the hands of law abiding citizens reduces crime and we have the statistics to back that up. The rest of the world just "think" they know better when the opposite is true.

I agree ! Americans are different people (murder and shooting happy), that's why you need to protect yourself.

Fact: Thirty-nine states, comprising the majority of the American population, are
"right-to-carry" states. Statistics show that in these states the crime rate fell (or did not
rise) after the right-to-carry law became active (as of July, 2006). Nine states restrict the
right to carry and two deny it outright.
Fact: Crime rates involving gun owners with carry permits have consistently been about
0.02% of all carry permit holders

Yeah, and the right to carry laws also brings in more security.
I couldn't believe it , they have metal detectors in California, simple when going to a hockey game.
And then if you smoke during the period break (right infront of the security personal) - they still check , again !

Oh well, thats how you need to live in America now.
Luckily we don't !

Wow,

I am shocked. The Government still allows us to smoke ?? They still allow us to eat McDonalds ?? They still allow us to eat junk food ? They still allow us to have guns ??
We must protest and occupy until all of our freedoms are taken away.

They must take away my gun and Kleins smoke ASAP !!!

How many people die because of smoking ??? More dangerous than guns.

Now , lets pretend Canada and the USA would be gun free.
Do you think corssing the border would be lighter or tighter.

Now, pretend again, and USA & Canada are also drug free (drug and gun free). Do you think security and policing would be tighter or lighter ?

Sorry, but I'm just not used to going to a sporting event or a concert and being checked in as if I was at an airport.
You folks need to live with it, not us.
