Is the vote a strict majority vote?

Once we start organizing seriously again and maybe get some protective laws from Washington that would make it easier. Right To Work would not be such a threat to collective bargaining if the Unions were winning with their negotiations and provide a clear difference in wages and benefits. We need a level playing field to compete in the labor market, a new vision not stuck in the 50's and 60's with the business of doing business of protecting the "ins" and leaving out the"outs". A change is a coming no matter the results of this tentative, the writing is on the wall.

The results of this particular contract might turn out to be bigger than the "97" one for all the Labor Unions, not just the Teamsters. We are the largest and any chance of a work stoppage will have the Feds breathing down both parties necks, and they really do not want Trump to use it as an election issue no matter whether you support him or not. He would use that "working man card" in a heartbeat and who would blame him. Can you really imagine the scope of this event on the economy and the constant news fodder that will occur in the media, look what happen in the "97" strike, we were in the news 24/7 for 16 days. Even I was getting tired of seeing the Strike head line every news broadcast.

Three largest private sector corporations in the U.S.

Amazon....Walmart.... and United Parcel Service. Any threat of any of those businesses closing with any disastrous event would cause a immediate reaction from Washington, it would affect the national economy that much. So all those worried about a lock out or a strike calm down, I ain't going to happen, too many heads will roll if anybody makes the decision to spin that wheel and see what happens.

Things are moving along quite nicely, why rock the boat.

Agree except for the fact that amazon and Walmart could be gone tomorrow and their share could be picked up by smaller online vendors, target, Kroger, and others.... yes, it would suck to loose those jobs but other companies could pick up the slack.. now UPS on the other hand, think that would be more difficult to do.. especially in the near term...

True..any work stoppage by UPS (services) would be worst, the other common carriers will fold in a minute due to the massive volume. Even a 2 day stoppage nationwide would devastate the economy.

Yes, just a majority. The 2/3 stipulation only applies to a last and final offer.

Moving the goal post to 66% majority so that one of the parties has a better chance or lesser change or getting their way is not what democracy is.
Well, it is for a certain political party but I won't go there.

Um.... OK.

How much time and effort.... have you "personally" invested in organizing ?

Or, is that just left up to Elected officials ?

-Bug-

Oh yes, the lone wolf organizer going against what is now obviously a concerted effort from both UPS and the IBT to push the biggest concession contract ever through. Good luck with your mailers and leaflets.

Bug....When was the last time your local or any local anywhere went into a UPS facility and passed out Union membership cards to any current non-union workers. They are in there, you just have to search. "Are we a closed shop?"..Is there an written agreement somewhere that prohibits it. Look what they are doing with "Coyote" or "Subcontracting"..You wonders sometimes.

I did noticed that this contract adds "Customer Counter positions" into the collective bargaining unit,
much like we added the Auditors back in the day. A lot of those counter positions are Union already, in my area they have been in existence for over 40 years. Once these new positions become Union, is there any protective language that guarantees that get the same protective improvements as another union members with the same amount of seniority in their Wages, Pensions and Health and Welfare benefits? How will that smooth transition work?
