I hate to be annoying but I'm still unclear as to wether this is supposed to be allowed or not as I've had varying opinions as you all can see:cursing:

Do you need an air compressor or tire gauge

Short answer..NO it isn't allowed. You are underage. In order to protect your ass in the future, refuse any further shuttling.

I have liability anyway
Your insurance won't cover it because you were on the clock and working for UPS. Also, some companies will not cover vehicle use for "Delivery" unless you purchased the additional coverage. Do you want to be in the middle of a "UPS says "NO", my insurance says "NO", and I just did 50k worth of damage?"

You're 19 years old and the very fact that you're questioning this should tell you that it isn't supposed to happen. Be smart about this, document the date, time, and the location of where you shuttled. Refuse to do it anymore and if they give you a hard time, say "you're the ones going against policy, not me". There is also a pay difference in being an air driver. Getting an underage preloader to shuttle is cutting corners in more ways than one.

Um did you talk to your steward......or your business agent?????

Don't be a dick until you cross that bridge. They will provide you with the answers.

Never heard of that. Should absolutely not be allowed. I often shuttled after preload but only as an exception air driver.

They paid a union employee to shuttle late air to drivers.
If he did it every day, then you can make a stink about it.

For once, they use a union employee to do this, and the Teamster hoard is still not satisfied.

They're regularly using underpaid, underage union employees who are probably taking on a lot of personal liability. And they're being kept out of air progression.

There is nothing to "progress" if they aren't delivering.
If the bean counters want to take the hit on the late air, I don't care if a fellow teamster is being paid to drop it to me.
If he didn't want the extra money, he would say no.

Sorry, boss. Shuttlers are still exception air drivers even if they're not delivering. Only time delivering or not becomes a pay question is if they're delivering Ground packages.

@ThatOnePreloader Are you guys even being paid mileage to shuttle packages out in your own vehicles for preloader pay? PVDs will be getting that plus $18.xx/hr pay this peak season.

Edit: Not sure on the PVD hourly pay rate. Think I saw that confirmed somewhere.

So you would rather management do it?

going against policy

What policy?

Exactly.

Theoretically, UPS is responsible for insurance when you drive your personal vehicle.

Not theoretically, contractually.

Article 40 of the NMUPSA.

The idea that the only choices are...

-Management doing it

-Using underpaid, underage union employees who are probably taking on a lot of personal liability. That are also being kept out of air progression.

....is a false one. The correct choice is to use exception air drivers, over 21, who are in progression.

The OP says this is "normal practice". So it's not like the need for shuttling came out of nowhere. OP's management team is trying to get away with something they know they shouldn't be doing. Which is why the shuttlers aren't punching in as 5E drivers.
