Juneteenth - A National Holiday?

Who destroyed the budget?
Quit electing Republican administrations that jack up the deficit any time they are in office and we'd have plenty of money

republicans and democrats.

the way to fix the budget is real simple stop increasing the spending. eventually revenues catch up to spending and you balance.

Every day could be Free Slave Day with an apology check and it wouldn't be enough for you.

Well 1st off let me respond with my go to response if you disagree with me.....Well you're just :censored2:ing stupid.
What do you think it would cost to make it a federal holiday?
The governments toilet paper budget for two weeks?
If making it a federal holiday is what pushes the American government over the edge after all this :censored2: we've been through. I will give you both a verbal and written apology

we are already over the edge I'll take your apology when you feel ready to man up and deliver as promised.

the reason we dont balance the budget is because we keep finding reasons to spend more money then we take in.
each time we justify it by saying this expense will not push us over the edge by itself.
This government will absolutely never cut spending . the only hope we have is to stop increasing spending until revenue catches up.
as i said before i think we should reduce holidays that we have not add to them.

how do you run your household budget? are your credit cards all maxed out because you feel you're not over the edge?

did you notice i was able to discuss this issue with insulting your low level of intelligence?

The cracker comment was meant to be humorous, you're well aware of my sense of humor. Lighten up black dog.

I didnt really care about the cracker comment. I am curious as to how you felt about the rest of my post?
I've worked in and around many black people for 40 years and never heard any black person mention it and never had a black person say he needed off to celebrate this holiday.
suddenly when trump wants to schedule a rally on that day we find it its the black version of christmas.

whats actually a bit embarrassing to me is I am a big civil war buff and history buff and never heard of it until it became political.
That also means it was never taught to me or my kids in one of the most liberal school systems in the country.

friend:censored2:k you!
You are making an argument based on 'Why Not' ... how about your arguments on 'Why'.
This smacks of 'never let a good crisis go to waste'.
Piggybacking on the COVID-19 crisis and the George Floyd crisis is a bit disingenuous.

This did not seem important to Obama in 8 years as President to make it a National Holiday.

I remember when Georgia made MLK a holiday replacing Robert E Lee's birthday.
Robert E Lee's birthday holiday was moved to the day after Thanksgiving.
Now it's listed as 'Georgia State Holiday' ... not surprised but this was done very quietly in 2015.
Somehow, the author on Wikipedia missed 'Confederate Memorial Day'. LOL

Georgia renames Confederate Memorial Day, Robert E. Lee on holiday calendar
For years, Confederate Memorial Day and Robert E. Lee's birthday have been on Georgia's official state holiday calendar.
Not any more.
The two holidays have been struck from the official calendar and replaced with the innocuous term "state holiday."
A list of 2015 state holidays on Georgia's website proclaims Robert E. Lee's birthday on January 19, but notes it will be observed on November 27. It also lists Confederate Memorial Day on April 26 with its day of observance as April 27.
A new list of 2016 state holidays reflects the change to "state holiday."
