"....in the floor debate over the amendment in late 1803, Massachusetts Congressman Samuel Thatcher complained that “The representation of slaves adds thirteen members to this House in the present Congress, and eighteen Electors of President and Vice President at the next election.” But Thatcher’s complaint went unredressed. Once again, the North caved to the South by refusing to insist on direct national election."Waaaaahh racism Waaaaahh

The more slaves a cracker state bought or bred, the more electoral votes it would receive. What a country!I'm sorry to hear that the Massachusetts Congressman didn't want slaves to be represented at all. Didn't know about that. Thanks for posting.

You should explore the difference between justification, and explanation, especially in context. This is somehow supposed to justify American slavery??
I just find it funny you guys have empathy in this situation, but not when it’s the other group. “Just get over it” that’s the narrative being pushed. You should explore the difference between justification, and explanation, especially in context.
Nobody here seems to have a chip on their shoulder thinking they're owed the world because of this 200 year old event. They seem to have "gotten over it".I just find it funny you guys have empathy in this situation, but not when it’s the other group. “Just get over it” that’s the narrative being pushed.

No it didn't.They’re allowed to have resentment. This country denied them basic rights and enslaved them.

Find one person alive today who was legally held a slave in the United States and I'll admit I was wrong.
Doesn't make me uncomfortable. I have no problem acknowledging that it happened, a longYou’re missing the point. Of course no living slave is alive. What I’m talking about is the history of it. I don’t know what’s so hard about acknowledging it. Weird how makes you guys uncomfortable. Lol
So what's your remedy for a 200 year old, presently non-existing fault in which all parties involved no longer exist?I don’t hate America, I just recognize it’s faults. You can be critical of the place you live in.
It hasn't been Progressives who have advocating the trashing of the environment and discriminating against minorities nor lying us into war and authorization of the use of torture. The country has evolved a lot since those days. Just goes to show that no matter how much "progress" is made, progressives will always hate America, even if they got everything they wanted.
