Every department at UPS will have to offer up some people for the sacrifice (layoff). Not a single department will escape. It does not matter if you help generating revenue. You can always do more with a lot less. After all Tome has the hardest job. She has to steer and navigate this UPS heavy cruise ship and all the animals are onboard.

"About 75% of the layoffs are expected to occur in the first half of the year, executives said."

What's about the 25%? I am thinking they will tally up the layoff numbers. If it does not meet their 1 billion cost saving, they will come back for some more herds thinning.

The sky isn't falling. A shift happen from covid that directly affected our company and industry. The company went on a building and hiring spree to compensate. Time went on life went back to normal. Volume was never going to keep going up. It's falling now due to a variety of issues, covid is gone, people aren't ordering as much, the economy has been and will continue to decline. Lower seniority everyone is at risk. Volume will go back to normal levels and life will go on for most. Get a grip. "We are sears". Completely different industry. Your a clown for even making a parallel like that. The sheer volume each of us 4 companies handle in shipping everyday is all you need to know that none of us are going anywhere.

More machines and automation will take over. Human beings are commodities...there is a plan. Just watch it to unfold before the next contract.

Yes! They didn't learn from Sears or Kmart. Why do they care? They only look at 3 months to 3 years at a time. By the time the damage is done, they have been retired to FL.
If corporate worked as many hours and efficiently as drivers, they could cut their departments in half

Especially when you have a strong labor union representing you.

Make up your mind.

Either corporate is inept and going to crash and burn, or they're evil geniuses with a master plan.

Can't have it both ways.

Automation will take over a portion. Your looking at this like democrats scared people about rising sea levels yet continue to buy water front properties. A robot in a car that drives it self, parks it self, backs up it self, unloads bulk stops by itself, drives in the rain by itself, and pisses in bottles all day is so far away I can't conceive it happening even in my children's lifetime.

So far, they aren't screwing themselves up; I'm talking about Tome, executive VPs, and regional managers, and district managers.

You're aware of what the shareholders will do to them if they destroy the company, yes?

Our fates are very intertwined. If we die, so do they.
