New PVD - sorting tips please?

Yeah, I'm a road hog
Meanwhile the company is branding cover drivers as PVD drivers who simply opted to use package cars to perform the work... what?
I'd be hard pressed to find a "Cover-Driver" willing to use their own vehicle especially if the are considered Cover Drivers. Now Seasonal PVD's is a whole other matter. When applying for the job it is made clear you will use your own car. I don't think it's that way for Cover people, they may be asked to but if I'm a Cover Driver I'd say provide me a vehicle.

The union gets the dues and UPS gets cheap labor. What a set up, it’s like sanctioning scabs. As long as the union gets to wet they’re beak they’re ok with it.
Until enough members vote in officers that are willing to get the language you need and then get the rank and file to vote on it.

See what you do is you just throw everything in the car, mix it around, jumble it around and boom you are all set. Everything is scrambled like how Orion does it.

Sorry but without some sort of emoji I had to suspect that you were serious. After all I have been receiving some less than friendly responses here no?
This said, I apologize for my reaction and no, I'm not looking for trouble.

Does a cover driver receive the same benefits as a driver with a regular route?

Yes I started as a TCD in 2014 and was not guaranteed pay, but was started at like 3/4 top pay or something which was $28 at the time. It was stressful being completely green and learning routes, but eventually when some guys retired I just covered their rural routes until that center moved to a new building. I also didn’t have to do integrad.

I’m full time since like 2016 and make around top pay. I think that was unsustainable for UPS.

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.

Covered for 7 year’s before I finally bid a route. Cover sucks IMO. More stress not knowing what to expect every morning. At least with you’re own route you get the same sucky crap every day so you can adapt to it.

I’m still covering as I prefer it. I have highest seniority of unassaigned drivers and the older guys with the best routes take the most time off.

Some guys liked it, some would literally get sick in the morning. Not for everyone, like the job itself! Lol

Last peak I paged in for help on a day with 270 stops. At 8pm they message me asking for an MP, who shows up? A PVD in a Prius. I was still 90+ stops deep and this dude couldn’t fit more than 15 stops in his car. Totally worthless.

Luckily an RPCD was free by 9pm to come help me otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to finish. My helper was a no show that day so it took me 4 hours just to clear my center aisle. I messaged dispatch telling them this PVD was not enough help. They wanted to send me two more PVD’s but I told them to forget it. Send a driver or I’m bringing stops back.

I finished 50 stops in 4 hours today and asked if there was any more available. I was asked if I wanted to head 15 miles down the road to help a driver that got hosed out of a helper and was under water. I said HELL YES and am sitting in a parking lot waiting for some packahes. I highly doubt he totally hates the PVD program.

Hey wally! Don't you think that you were kinda hard on the Beaver last night? Prolly not...
Sorry folks but I'm a self motivated person. I want to out work everyone that's in the same position I am. I get packages dropped at my home but I have had to go to the center to help other PVD drivers finish their route and I've been here for a total of 4 days. Most of the other PVD drivers I saw at the center moved slower than I thought physically possible. I have no idea how they get their runs done.
I've been asking for more volume since the second day and I've been told, "it's coming". Bring it on.
Every UPS driver that's delivered to my house have been impressive to me. They are literally all physically fit and move at a pace slightly below a jog. I'm totally in with their work ethic and I will bet they aren't Union puppy dogs.
Unions SUCK IMO. I bet several here will agree. Perhaps not on the record for fear of being labeled self motivated.
I get it, you're just a person who is looking to make extra money during the holiday season and signed up to be a PVD, with no intention of taking work away from union members.

I get it, a lot of people here are diehard union supporters and feel like the allowance of PVDs by the company (and union) is taking work away from union members.

I'm pretty sure both of the above statements are 100% true.

"Unions suck" is an opinion, but in all seriousness, get educated on why they were created and why they still exist and are, in fact, still needed.

And I'm a union supporter as are plenty of people with a good work ethic. I bet I could outwork you even though you don't support unions. One has nothing to do with the other.

Maybe you can outwork me. But there is no chance in hell that you can 😁. It's impossible to quantify but I just did 77 stops and 110 packages in 6.5 hours. That includes a 10 minute gas stop and another 10 minutes screwing with this POS android device we use. It's garbage and crashes at least 4 times a day. When it does it forgets the stop it was at when it crashed so I've had to backtrack to make sure I logged the delivery right.
You don't need to tell me to get educated about the genesis of unions. I bet I've been around loner than you and I've seen :censored2: go down the tubes in America for 60 years. Yes, unions served a very valuable service at their inception. Today, IMO, they make people lazy as hell and I can easily supply examples. The UPS drivers happen to be an exception because you are all forced to break your asses every day. Maybe the union should tell UPS that they shouldn't demand that their driver HAVE TO complete 200+ stops?
We can debate unions but it would be fruitless. One item I can easily arm myself with is that unions are pro Democrat and the democrat party absolutely sucks. Every year it becomes blatantly more socialist. Just look at that sorry POS potus we have now. Are you going to tell me he's not THE WORST EVER?

11.8 stops an hour! WITH A GAS STOP, TOO! We had better pack it in union brothers, no way we can compete with that.

Completely agree! The only reason wages are good for non-union labor is because of the labor unions. If the labor unions didn't fight for good wages for its members, there is no reason for other employers to pay anywhere near a comparable wage to non-union employees. My husband retired from the Operating Engineers and has a great pension. I can't think of any other business in our general area where non-union employees receive a comparable pension.

You’re stops per hour sucks. I just retired at 64. If I averaged 11 stops per hour I’d never have finished my route.
