Only 5% of next car purchasers expect to buy all electric cars-Road and Track.

The word "apartment" didn't even appear in my post. I specifically said "high-rises."
65% of people own homes. Most of the rest don't drive far enough to need a charge more than once per week. Usually much less.

It's a non-issue for just about everyone.
35% of 340 million is over 100 million people. A lot of those people are in those apartments because they can't afford to buy a home. High rent keeps them from affording much of anything. You keep sweeping aside all arguments as if they don't matter but for a lot of people it matters very much. If they don't have access to a used car that takes all they can to keep it going they're screwed. You may think the answer is to buy a brand new electric car but they can afford a lot of maintenance on a $5k used car for a very long time rather than struggle to make a high car payment (with interest rates rising to boot). What I'm not getting is why with so few parts compared to ICE vehicles that electric cars are so expensive? Seems like if you don't have to buy gas then it's ok to jack up the price. When I can buy a little grocery getter for $15k new I'll definitely consider an electric car. Looks like someone other than Tesla will fill that niche eventually. Honestly though I'd rather have an electric bike.

Of course they're not buying EV's largely, and not Teslas.
Good grief. You were talking about the convenience or practicality of using them. That's not an issue for just about anybody. The charging infrastructure and range is sufficient for them. EV's don't take much, even for an apartment dweller.
Cost is still an issue, but you just completely changed the subject.

In every wedding I've played a part, my parting advice to the groom is to never, ever let his wife's emotional state determine the happiness of the home.

That's straight up terrorism. "If I'm not happy, nobody can be!" - hello, Mrs. Toddler.
From my own experience and at least a hundred guys who've said same to me over the years, if Mama ain't happy then no one is happy. YMMV

Yeah, and they're all hen-pecked, emasculated men.

They may be rough and tough and accomplished, but getting bossed around by the wife's emotional state is just pathetic.

Not even a man in their own homes.

The charging infrastructure isn't adequate at this point to meet the needs to switch all cars to electric. Nowhere near it. And if they carelessly force all this on everyone without it being ready we'll have one big mess. One only has to look at how this administration has handled Afghanistan, the border, energy, and inflation to imagine the disaster that could develop. You like Tesla? Great. But this is a lot more complicated than you loving your car. You just refuse to acknowledge that.

Again, of course it's not currently enough to switch all cars to electric. That's the way tech grows. There was never enough infrastructure for cars to replace horses.

Until there was.
You don't build the infrastructure 10 years in advance of the car number. EV's will be a small portion of cars on the road for a long time, even if/when they dominate new car sales. The remaineder will still be all gas. This is a 15-20 year transition before you see a majority of cars on the roads being electric. Replacing world fleets takes a very long time, even as sales double every year (and they will).

Let me tell you my personal experience. Don't care if this paints me a certain way. I took a reduced pension at 55. Didn't have much choice with health issues. My wife had bought a house in a KC suburb a year before we got married and had a renter in it. His lease was up in 6 months. We couldn't afford where we were living on my pension but I discovered there were a bunch of motels in Branson, MO that rented rooms all inclusive for around $100-$150 a week depending on the motel. So we went there, looked at a few, rented one. She decided she didn't like it, wanted to move into a much more expensive apartment that we couldn't afford. Even more expensive than the one we had left. One night she started berating me about it. Wouldn't stop. Went on well over an hour nonstop calling me everything in the book and getting more harsh by the minute. I finally told her I couldn't take it anymore after begging her to stop. Said I was going to leave her. She shrugged like she couldn't care less. I got angry and slapped her. Didn't punch her, didn't knock her down, didn't restrain her from leaving the room. Wasn't a hard slap either. She was a big fan of the show "Cops", and she thought she'd teach me a lesson by calling the sheriff. Taught me a lesson alright. I was arrested, held for 5 hours, had a court date. Was given choice of 3 months in jail with permanent record of misdemeanor, or 2 years unsupervised probation with an anger management class at my expense plus court costs. The misdemeanor would then drop off my record. I took the probation, and after completing the class I traveled overseas. The misdemeanor on my record during that two years kept me from numerous jobs, and about the only thing I could do to help out at all was to live overseas super cheap while I paid her car payment and a lot of utility bills. The other thing that drove me overseas was her bringing in her daughter on the pretense she was going to finish college. The girl sat around smoking pot and cigarettes, drinking Red Bull, ordering pizza, acted like she owned the place. After 2.5 years of not going to school I insisted she either go or move out. Mama Bear protected her cub, and one morning that extremely fat pot smoking cub told me I was a liar and a disgusting person. She was mad that I brought up she needed to get her oil changed on her car. It was about 6 months overdue and I noticed it while giving her car the umpteenth jumpstart because she would let it sit in the driveway until it died while she used her mother's car and didn't pay for gas. Has a part time job and gives her mother $60 a month which she more than gets back in meals. This Fall she's due to get her associate degree almost 5 years after moving in. Plans to quit school then. Anyways my wife the Mama Bear told me I had to leave after her daughter calling me names because she was tired of the conflict. That's when I financed a Honda Element to live in and drove around the Rockies. I've been subject to ridicule for living overseas and living in my car. Guys like you say we're emasculated for not running our own homes. You may not know that a woman can push you over the brink and has the full force of the law behind her. If I had knocked the crap out of her daughter for talking to me that way in my own home the police would see I was arrested for domestic violence. The conviction was cleared off the books but arrest records available to law enforcement aren't. I was almost denied entry into Canada to make a delivery but they decided to let me in for 24 hrs but I can't reenter Canada for 10 years. On the plus side my wife makes $20hr now because the time I spent constantly being rejected for jobs forced her to seek better work. That's it in a nutshell. You think you know but if you ever lose your temper and lash out because you were pushed too far you may be on the wrong side of the law very quickly. That split second of not thinking cost me a lot.

Except they seem determined to make it happen by 2030.

No, they don't. That refers to new car sales, not percentage of cars on the road.

Biden wants EV's to be half of new car sales by 2030.

That would still leave them as much less than 20%, probably more like 15%, of cars on the road.

Totally different metrics.

I am simply not going to read all that. I would be sorry to waste your time. But, come on.

OK, but I've read otherwise. If they're pragmatic then great.

Yes I have.
No, you haven't.
Unless it was by another ignorant boomer in a forum talking about hearsay from hearsay from a news report somebody misunderstood.

Then you may have read it.
It's very clear. Half of sales by 2030. The math says that won't yield any more than 15-20% of total cars on the road being electric.
