Your daughter could've gotten better performance for a lot less money. She will never make up the extra purchase and maintenance expenses with gas savings.
Pretty much any vehicle has better performance than a Prius. Most Prius owners don't care about that. Prius' are one of the most reliable vehicles made. Add 50 miles to the gallon and it's a great compromise. Uses very little fuel, reliability, no range anxiety, able to take long trips with ease, high resale value, batteries that last forever, and now they're available with all wheel drive and a plug in option. Sure they're ugly, but you can't have everything.

I'm not liberal.

What is this system collapse?

Our "system" is collapsing because of liberal Democrats....communist/socialists....pretty obvious.
look up 6th mass extinction if you dont believe me

system collapse is what happens to complex systems. civilizations have failed before but never worldwide.

maybe the problem is markets externalize too much of the real cost like pollution, so we buy things which we cant actually afford.

we are living in a bubble. theres also something called the progress trap.

You can get the same reliability and long range ease with any regular gas car, and they cost a lot less to own over the life of the vehicle.

Gas savings never catch up to what's spent on the purchase price, compared to basic, reliable gas cars.

I never have to be aware at all.

I drive 20 to 70 miles a day, and I have 300+ miles of range. It never even occurs to me to look at the range. If I remember to use a plug, I never even consider it.
I will say this.....Upstate was the worst case for EV's....having to hire accountants to justify....I've never seen so much gyrations to just get you to buy the thing.

And your pie in the sky, unicorns and rainbows enthusiasm just doesn't translate to regular people.....as evidenced by so few EV's. People don't want them or can use them.....in any daily scenario. Again, lack of infrastructure and utility. Having two vehicles(gas backup) would be the only way I would even CONSIDER an EV.

EVs literally just became viable and good in the past year or two. Your objections were fine before then. The world has changed and you need an update.

Tesla sales aren't doubling every year because of environmental whackos. It's because they offer a performance, price, and convenience combination that nobody has ever had with gas or anything else.

How would they do without all the subsidies people get for buying one?

I don't care if you want to buy one. They're going to take over the world without you. I like mocking ignorant old people. It gives me something to do.

Theres no choice because no-one wants one.

I live in reality. Where do you live?

My nearest grocery store is 5 miles away. They aren't going to make public transportation there. Please.

You want the moon.....come back to Earth.

Still by far the best. Many incentives have expired. And Tesla just raised prices on all their cars just because they can.

You can beat Italian supercars off the line for 50 grand, man. And do it with the space of an suv. That's unheard of. It's a new world.

If you have to drive to get to public transit then most of its supposed advantages go away. About the only time it would make sense is if you work downtown where there is only limited and expensive parking.

If so.....

Why(in real world everyday reality) is this not so? Here, few if any EV stations.....1 in a 1000 Teslas....that's what I see.

No-one I know has a Tesla. Too expensive and no utility.....No-one wants one.

The world hasn't changed...you have. Principles of free economics and physics haven't changed....you sound like they have.

Being bludgeoned into change doesn't make it so.

Ignorant old people vote and pay taxes.....son.
We know. They voted themselves about 100 trillion in debt and obligations, stealing from their children and grandchildren. Well be paying off your entitlements long after you're gone.

That's the problem with old people, these days. They think the world owes them everything just for existing.
