No, I cannot intervene with someone driving (other than starting music at max volume or flashing lights) and I also cannot drive these Teslas remotely.

I am over cars, so one that requires much less maintenance, and doesn't require a trip to a filthy gas station is fine with me.

However, there is an economic axiom that "once the car goes in the garage, it doesn't come back out until the following day." This may finally kill off the entertainment industry, while obviously decimating the industries that support automotive repair & maintenance. No gas tax collected for roads & bridges, either... It is unlikely there will be much savings by going electric, when all is settled. Certainly, the powers that be will want their pound of flesh, as usual. In my experience, big upheavals like this, always come with a higher pricetag.

If the EV starts his trip at 80%, which is normal, and you have a quarter tank in a sedan, which is also common, you'll be going to him for warmth.

The average EV doesn't start a trip with a low tank, pretty much ever. Gas cars do. The human behavior element is missing.

(your post may not be using it to argue against EVs, but the blog guy and all such car sites do use it for precisely that purpose)

I can run my truck for 15 minutes, use almost no gas, and stay warm enough for hours at right around freezing temps. Meaning I could easily sit in my truck during the duration of a situation like what happened on I95 and still have enough to get to a station. I'd be interested in seeing the comparison between that and how an EV would do. It's also not very difficult to get someone to bring you a gas can, put a couple gallons in, and be on your way quickly. I doubt you would get that sort of result from an EV. Hydrocarbons are simply a better way to store and use energy. While I think EV and alternative energy sources have their place, I think it would be a mistake to try and eliminate hydrocarbon infrastructure in favor of all electric.

I like to think about what it would take to terraform mars. Astrophysicists claim It's in the goldilocks zone, but northern and southern reaches of our planet become nearly uninhabitable for a few months each year due to just being tilted slightly further away from the sun. Another few million miles away seems like it would never be warm enough.
