Some Irish were slaves.
The Irish were extremely oppressed in the 19th century. From indentured servants to slavery, many were promised a better life in the United States only to get here and have to serve a wealthy family. Those were the lucky ones. The majority were kept in slums with no chance at getting a job. US History overlooks just how bad the Irish were treated.

Yes. It is true that the Irish were the first slaves in the new world. Some of the Irish who were exiled to Australia turned out to be some mean slave drivers there because they took it out on the "slave" workers. You know..."I had it hard so I will beat the crap out of you guys".

At this point so much time has passed since slavery that they can’t keep using that as an excuse for their situation. We see many successful black and Irish people today. Despite what happened to their ancestors, they made a choice not to be a victim of circumstance.
