He earned the right to graduate with his fellow classmates.
His name was listed on the graduation program, but officials did not read his name among the graduates.
That is shameful.
He was there and treated as a non person.

He's a Marine, he should do what he's told. If the the uniform of the day is a graduation cap and gown, then you wear a cap and gown. No special treatment. End of story.

At other area schools, graduates who joined the military were encouraged to wear their uniforms.

Hobart High School graduate Ana Kritikos wore her uniform to graduation on June 1. The enlisted intelligence specialist in the U.S. Marine Corps said school officials discussed her uniform and gave her a thumbs up.

When I got married all of the males in our wedding party and I wore our dress blues, in part because of our pride in the uniform but mostly because we were paying for the wedding ourselves and it cost nothing to wear our uniforms.

He could have worn the uniform, taken off the jacket, put the gown on and then reversed that process once he received his diploma.

Weddings are different. You're in charge so you decide what to wear. But the principal said it was a no go and he's in charge. So wearing the dress blues is a no go. Marines follow orders. Especially straight out of boot camp.
