SOCIAL MEDIA GIANTS OPPRESSING THE RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS OF AMERICANS

My issue with calling them private companies is that they aren't by any definition, private. They are publicly traded, they are open to the public. I have my opinions about what that should mean for individual rights, but the real issue is that their practices are discriminatory on the basis of political and/or religious affiliation. The civil rights act prohibits such discrimination, and their is plenty of precedent against the idea that it is ok for "private" companies to discriminate or deny human rights as a prerequisite for engaging in business with them.
Was Parler shut down only because its userbase is largely Trump supporters?

Ron Paul Banned From Facebook For Inciting Dangerous Levels Of Liberty

"Our Community Standards clearly warn people and pages against inciting people to be free, live their lives, and take responsibility for their actions," said Mark Zuckerberg. "Ron Paul continued to violate these rules by stoking the fires of liberty among the young people of our nation. Now, young minds can be safe from Paul's radical idea that each of us should decide how to live our lives and that we should do unto others as we would want them to do unto us."

Sensing the end for freedom and liberty was nigh, Ron Paul grabbed his bugout bag, dug up his hidden stores of gold buried throughout his town, and drove to his secret compound at an undisclosed location in South Dakota to wait out the fall of the Republic. "Maybe the next generation will be ready for liberty," he said as the bunker door closed behind him.

What did Amazon cite was going on with Parler when they announced it'd no longer be running on AWS? Hadn't Parler been running since 2018?
It was discovered that the thirteen primary instigators in the Capitol invasion had planned their raid on Facebook and YouTube. Not on Parler. Yet that was used as a basis of claiming Parler was allowing political violence to be fomented. There's nothing that was on Parler that wasn't on Twitter except Parler allowed conservative opinions. Exactly the kind of criticism that liberals have leveled against talk radio and FOX News for decades. they can't stand conservatives being allowed to express opinions in public. Difference is Big Tech now has enough power to get rid of competitors. We're truly seeing what Leftists do if given the means to do it. What's next?

Now you're getting it. What changed.
Probably the racist and violent rage Trumpees went into after it became clear that the insurrection at the Capitol had failed their God Emperor. Parler quickly became a hotbed for domestic terror talk and planning specifically because such communication is indeed moderated by other social media platforms.

Amazon hits back at Parler's antitrust lawsuit with extensive examples of its violent content, including death threats against Democrats, GOP, tech CEOs, and BLM

"Amazon cited more than a dozen examples of content posted to Parler that it said violated Amazon's policies.

"We are going to fight in a civil War on Jan.20th, Form MILITIAS now and acquire targets," one post said, according to the document, while another read: "White people need to ignite their racial identity and rain down suffering and death like a hurricane."

Other Parler posts cited included death threats against prominent Democrats such as former President Barack Obama, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, as well as Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google's parent company Alphabet.

Parler users also took aim at people of color, Black Lives Matter activists, Jews, teachers, the media, and professional sports leagues including the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL. "

Bet you can find similar from Leftists on Twitter. The Capitol Building attack wasn't planned on Parler.

So you're happy to use authoritarian measures to quell free expression? How Orwellian.
To shut down an entire company for stuff that some people might do is ludicrous. Being ok with that happening is worse.

Apple suspends Parler from App Store – TechCrunch

"We have always supported diverse points of view being represented on the App Store, but there is no place on our platform for threats of violence and illegal activity. Parler has not taken adequate measures to address the proliferation of these threats to people’s safety. We have suspended Parler from the App Store until they resolve these issues."

"To the developers of the Parler app,

Thank you for your response regarding dangerous and harmful content on Parler. We have determined that the measures you describe are inadequate to address the proliferation of dangerous and objectionable content on your app.

Parler has not upheld its commitment to moderate and remove harmful or dangerous content encouraging violence and illegal activity, and is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.

In your response, you referenced that Parler has been taking this content “very seriously for weeks.” However, the processes Parler has put in place to moderate or prevent the spread of dangerous and illegal content have proved insufficient. Specifically, we have continued to find direct threats of violence and calls to incite lawless action in violation of Guideline 1.1 – Safety – Objectionable Content.

Your response also references a moderation plan “for the time being,” which does not meet the ongoing requirements in Guideline 1.2 – Safety – User Generated content. While there is no perfect system to prevent all dangerous or hateful user content, apps are required to have robust content moderation plans in place to proactively and effectively address these issues. A temporary “task force” is not a sufficient response given the widespread proliferation of harmful content.

For these reasons, your app will be removed from the App Store until we receive an update that is compliant with the App Store Review Guidelines and you have demonstrated your ability to effectively moderate and filter the dangerous and harmful content on your service.

Regards,

App Review Board"

I WONDER HOW MANY OF THESE OPPRESSIVE CORPORATIONS WILL EXPERIENCE MILITANT ATTACKS IN 2021?

Can right-wing populist sentiment be banished from American life by the brute force of social-media censorship? We’re about to find out. After Wednesday’s mob invasion of the Capitol that disrupted the counting of electoral votes, big tech firms have moved, aggressively and in unison, against Donald Trump and his supporters. The companies say they want to marginalize the violent fringe, but their censorship will grow it instead.

On Thursday and Friday came the Facebook and Twitter bans of Mr. Trump.
Given the extraordinary circumstances, some commentators who normally oppose web censorship were untroubled.

An exception who deserves to be listened to is Alexei Navalny, the Russian democracy advocate and scourge of Vladimir Putin who was poisoned last year. He pointed out that, unlike the open election process that ousted Mr. Trump, social-media decisions to de-platform elected officials are unaccountable and arbitrary.
“Don’t tell me he was banned for violating Twitter rules. I get death threats here every day for many years, and Twitter doesn’t ban anyone,” Mr. Navalny tweeted.

He added that while Twitter is a private company, “we have seen many examples in Russian and China of such private companies becoming the state’s best friends and enablers when it comes to censorship.”

WHAT CAUSED THE APPLE FIRE?

republican voters are really going to put a lot energy into this irrelevant bs completely manufactured by republican celebs as a battle over free speech because it connects to their bizarre conspiracies about the all powerful left controlling everything and out to get republicans. This type of thinking is dangerous and leads to supporting violence. We maybe are in trouble man. Republican voters are fully in fantasyland do not care about helping actual Americans and are concerned with phony bs.
