If you can't beat em join em, everyone who remains at fedex will be screwed one way or another

Even if your station remains "express" in theory at some point you will be delivering ground ovens, dishwashers, steel bed frames, electric bikes, etc

Point is you can not trust your life & future to a scoundrel company like fedex.

as "express" positions open up(through retirees, fired, or quitting), they will be sold to contractors, thus employees will be a memory in several years

The job will not be sold. The volume will be shifted to Ground contractors. Given the increased demands and diversification the Ground model has to endure, we'll have to see if it can hold up.
In attractive areas where the demographics matches the design of the business model....it might hold up. But, the farther away your service area is from that ideal set of demographics the tougher it will be to hang on.

Shifted or sold.... currently if an area opens up at Ground, what do they do, they offer the area up for sale... fedex isn't giving anything away.

It depends on who in the end holds the proprietary rights. The contractor or the company. If it's the contractor he can sell it and get the proceeds. What I'm hearing recently is that if a contractor is terminated or simply throws in the towel and walks away FDX reclaims ownership of the area and makes the contracted work area available but it now comes with an asking price.
Do any of you have some knowledge regarding this latest greedy little caper?
Perhaps it might explain the army of California contractors trying to sell before running out of cash and forced to hand their contracts back to FDX.

They terminated a contractor in our building, the routes were given to contractors with surrounding areas of the zip codes.
In many cases I've been told the contractor was given the routes whether he wanted them or not and even if they're permanent money losing areas the contractor in order to remain in good standing with the godfather knows better than to refuse to take them. "I'm goin' to make ya' an offer you can't refuse".
