Strike coming to UPS?

I don't know anyone voting yes on the new contract. Definitely going to strike.

We had the president of UPS canada visit us the other day. Guy was a sorter, uneducated. Kept bragging about offering the "best contract signed in Canada in the past 12 months"
if he had a degree, maybe he'd know everything went up 30% these last 4-5months, way after the contracts he talks about.

17$ an hour is a * joke. Only reason i can manage on it is because 1) i get tons of communist $ for having kids 2) i have an other income AND im very frugal.

Canada is VERY expensive. A half decent 3br appartement in a SUBURB goes for 1.1k to 1.8k and you,ve got NOTHING in the suburb. Just mcdonalds, subways and other big chains.

I currently pay 1250$ per month for my share of a nice 700k$ house and even then my kids go to school with violent welfare kids
You would be surprised who votes in fear of a strike no matter what the contract says as long as they have a job they would give away their grandmother's false teeth to stay off the picket line. Hope you guys and gals stay strong and get a better deal than we did in the US.

only reason i stay on is because top salary is good and i love having a relaxed job where i can listen to podcasts and books all day without anyone pushing me. Our area is definitely a lot less strict than depots in the US. I can basically say no to anything. If its heavy i get people to come get it in the truck, if its an appartement i dont go in past the lobby, i wear whatever shoes or hat i want, no orion loop, etc.

I wish you the best hope the union backs you all the way and hope the members vote in a strong majority against the contract.
I've overheard a lot of guys with top seniority going on about how its disgusting to have people work this hard for 17$ an hour and almost no progression even though they started with 12 or 14$ themselves. They know how much more work there is nowadays. Hopefully they voted the way they felt. I overheard them between each other so they werent trying to make any newbie feel better.

a strong NO vote here will give strength to Americans on their next renewal i'd think,

1 bedroom apartments where I live are minimum $1200+ utilities and it won't be near the center. That's what these guys 0-2 year seniority are living with, they're stuck renting rooms for $800-$900. There are guys working here that cannot even afford a car to drive, they're constantly late because of buses. Management doesn't even care about people coming late because it happens so often that it's expected. How do they think this is a fine way to operate?

Every year I've been with UPS it just gets worse. Management seems to care less and less about professionalism and workplace rules, as long as they've got the bare minimum to show up to complete the day with no missed stops.

Welcome to UPS, where nobody cares as long as the packages get delivered.

It's not really the same, $17 CAD is $12.92 US. Everything is more expensive in Canada, so it's not as much as it looks like. Pension will be $88 in the new contract

The real problem is competition. Can't keep new drivers when they're only making $2 over minimum wage in Alberta and taking them 2 years to match Amazon's starting wage. My fear is all the newer drivers hired quitting right when peak is around the corner.
Everything’s more expensive in Canada, that’s what you get living in a high taxed socialist healthcare country. I’m not sure what the currency conversion is but ball parking it with your numbers their top rate is industry average in the United States for truck drivers. Can’t compare to American drivers wages we make way more than average. Plus UPS probably doesn’t have much of a market share up there, therefore less profits.

In my suburb, we are 5 ups trucks. Fedex has 2, dhl 0 and theres canada post. Most warehouses use UPS as the US contracts are also in Canada. All the big brands in Canada use UPS. Old navy/GAP, Apple, Walmart, Yves rocher, lenovo, melaleuca, etc.

Healthcare sucks balls too. Can't see a doctor ever unless you're already almost dead.

Lol. $31 a hour! Some here in the US think once the government shoves us into socialized medicine, the company will fork over all the health payments to us!...OOPS!

Are you PT or FT?

All the PT work at UPS is low/minimal skill labor.
Want to make more money you better have skills other than being able to move boxes around.

There isnt a single job at UPS that requires any skills. It's ape work, thats why i took the job. I've had my share of highly stressful jobs and still work a second highly stressful job online that requires an insane amount of knowledge and skills.

Nothing worse than guys with 20-30yrs with a chip on their shoulders, its a super easy job. Be cool. The only hard part is not hurting your body with all the sitting on a :censored2:ty seat all day which is actually pretty damn hard to do. Rest is ezpeazy

What percentage of your workforce is comprised of transient part timers? That over 50 % threshold that is required to call a nationwide strike will be impossible to obtain if these kids don't even bother to call in or turn in a ballot..

The only time in the States that we had over 50 % participation over the last 25 years was after the l997 strike, and it was around 51 %...Apathy is a lot worst since Carey was booted out...

When the president of your Union is quoting "best contract signed in Canada in the past 12 months" that would be a bad sign of your bargaining power, especially with UPS.
