UPS gets to choose the separation date between August 31st and October 31st. If you can't cover living expenses for a couple of months without a pension deposit then maybe you should not be retiring anyways.

crazy how they know the end date unless you are a huge center over staffed? what if 30 applied after you?

That's why it was such a lowball offer. They are only going to get the ones that should be retired already plus maybe a few more who are just sick of UPS.

I'm talking with a friend of mine and he says if you take the buyout he can continue to work until Oct 31st when his pension paperwork will be ready. My understanding is if you take it your employment is terminated immediately.

Your employment is not terminated immediately. You can still back out up until July 31. After that, there is no backing out but you continue to work until the separation date. And I believe UPS decides on that, although like @Johney said, they may work with you on the particular date.

Not a lawyer and I don’t even agree with SOB that this is illegal but this is not going to play out as smoothly as you and the company may have thought it would.

When we learn how many people took it it'll be laughable. It's not enough money for these geezers to leave.
