Telematics...UPS is wiring your truck

We dont get donuts anymore, they dont fit into the HABITS acronym. Now its water bottles and granola bars. Maybe a whole grain bran muffin if we are lucky.

Now that you mention it, we haven't had donuts in a while either. At least you are getting granola bars. We get apples and bananas with our water bottles.

I defined my package car career by two words, impeccable methods. New technologies only enhance such work regimen. I would guess most UPS package car drivers with 5 or more years on the road have nearly flawless methods.

I was going to say that telematics may relieve a huge weight from my shoulders. I say this because the on-road can never ask me why I was paid over. He has all the information he needs at the click of the mouse.

Its a relief because I can now not worry about how far behind I am. Telematics will prove why and I can focus on delivering the remaining packages. I will have a cool head and use the methods as close as possible to perfection for the rest of the day.

I know it shouldn't matter. We should do the job methodically regardless of the dispatch and load quality. Most of us do 95% of the time. P-man listed the essential elements we must follow to avoid dicipline. Nobody can do that 100% of the time, not even you P-man.:happy2:

The problem is we are human and not robots. Emotion comes into play and we get angry and ignore the methods to get the job done faster. When your truck is not loaded properly so that you can't find the right number of packages at every stop it aggrivates you. If we spend 2 minutes at 15 stops looking for the 8th or 9th parcel, we are 1/2 hour paid over right off the bat. Add to that all the other things that happen in an imperfect world and the paid over number begins to snowball.

I'm not saying it happens everyday, but all of us have found ourselves 1-2 hours behind on a route and we all know that time can't be made up.

What ticks me off is that my sup. will mention it to me that I was 2 hours paid over that day. It aggrivates me because it happens about 1 in 90 days. Based on this number he fails (or chooses to ignore) the fact that maybe the preload might share the blame?

I was old that ups had to stop installing it, not sure if it's true.

The system is installed on the pkg cars. The system is implemented at the center level. Did you hear that they had to stop installing or implementing Telematics? Our DM was in our center last week and told us Telematics was implemented in Syracuse this past month.

On a side note, I'm not sure if I am more tired of hearing "you should feel lucky that you have a job" or "the doom and gloom of Telematics".

In 2009, Telematics is being installed in one center per district. Its also being installed in a full district (South New England). As far as I know, that plan is unchanged.

There is no approval for deployment beyond that yet. They will look at the results and then decide if, when, and how fast the remaining sites deploy.

Do you have any idea how that lucky center is chosen?

Hey Sammie the chips will go in your ass to see if you are lying about going to the bathroom. Wait and see!
Can't you see what's next? Microchips inserted under the drivers skin. They're only the size of a grain of rice. That way management can scan you guys at any given moment and what a great way to step up those messages!

I love the old news part. Can you pick out the supervisors here. P-Man just keeps posting the same garbage on every sight. Many of these people are humper dumpers trying to defend the crap they do. They just lash out at the ones trying to help them because they're to weak to lash out at their percieved daddies, UPS. 24 hours from writing on this sight to the supervisors mouth. That's all it takes. Many little scared puppy dogs on this sight. Many "all about me's". There's some good people also that understand what the goal is. Some are just too dumb to see.
They are wiring the trucks up in our building for the first time now, so this is new issue for us. Sorry if it's old news for you. You guys are kind of rough over here, makes a guy want to take Browncafe out of his favorites.

Have no fear. Tape a little magnet to the sensor on your bulkhead door, and tell em you deliver everything out of the rear door. That should make em scratch their heads.

Let us know how that works out for you; better yet, I will ask you as you hand me my coffee and donuts at the DD drive-thru.

Yes, I'm a supervisor. 33 years with UPS.

I try and post facts as I know them. Maybe I post similar things because I'm restating the same facts. I don't think I've "lashed out".

It looks like you have chosen to be the one lashing out. You have decided that anyone that disagrees with ou is "just too dumb to see".
