FedEx's billing system doesn't have the flexibility to charge a different rate during certain periods.
They'll need to upgrade their billing system.
"UPS’s main rival, FedEx Corp. , doesn’t have a surcharge during the holidays, although the two carriers often match each other on pricing moves. A spokesman for FedEx, which is scheduled to report earnings Tuesday, declined to comment."

Recently lost a longtime driver/friend to an overweight parcel. Parcel weighed in at 250lbs, he blew out his back resulting in a 5 level fusion. His career is over at UPS.

Crated elevator part. Shipped overnight. How many hands did that parcel have to pass through to get to it's destination? Had someone stopped it somewhere along the way a service provider would still have a job.

Screw the surcharge. Let the overweights sit until the shipper arranges pickup and pays to have it returned.

He received a settlement from Liberty Mutual. Law suit would go nowhere unless you could prove the shipper intended to cause injury by shipping the overweight.

How would one even begin to try and move a 250lb package, anyway? The 150s are bad enough.
