Hawkins Police Blotter: UPS driver attacked in apparent attempted robbery – Times News

The Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the report of an attempted robbery of a UPS truck on Tuesday evening involving two males who attacked the driver, and then fled in a red Chevy Cavalier after the driver fought them off.

The attack occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Highway 11-W in Surgoinsville near the Lone Oak Road intersection.

The driver told HCSO Deputy Ed Rodriguez he was flagged down by two males in a red Chevy Cavalier who were stopped in the emergency lane. He said he thought it might be a customer so he pulled over and stopped.

Teamsters Ratify 5-Year Collective Agreement with UPS Canada – GlobeNewswire

A new 5-year collective agreement was ratified by a large majority of frontline workers at UPS Canada today. This comes after five months of intense negotiations between the company and the Teamsters who represent over 9,300 workers at UPS.

“Our union has been able to secure financial and other improvements in the working conditions of these hard-working Canadians on the frontlines of this pandemic. This recognizes the critical role they have been playing in the supply chain since the outbreak of this crisis,” said the national president of Teamsters Canada, François Laporte.

The new contract will improve wage progression for all categories of workers, meaning that some members will receive immediate raises of as much as $2 to $3 per hour. Workers already being paid the top rate will receive a $4.10 raise over the course of the five-year agreement. Full-time employees with seniority (at least 90 days on the job) will earn double time on the weekend, provided they work at least five hours.

UPS eyes Louisville for nearly 50,000-square-foot driver training center – Louisville Business First

United Parcel Service Inc. is considering bringing its driver training program, Integrad, to Louisville with a nearly 50,000-square-foot campus.

The project is in its very early stages as the logistics provider evaluates the company’s business needs, a spokesperson with the company said. But the proposed Integrad/Autograd facility would be located at 10400 Air Commerce Drive, just down the street from the logistics provider’s UPS Customer Center, according to a plan filed in the Louisville Metro Business Portal.

The Integrad program, which began in 2007, brings drivers to the fictitious town of “Clarkville” to practice driving and delivering packages in the mock city complete with small houses, street signs and simulated commercial and residential delivery and pickup sites, according to a company fact sheet on the program.
