A fighter against the Teamsters old guard – Socialist Worker

I RECENTLY learned that Jerry Zero, the former secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 705, of which I was a member, died on April 4. His death was announced at the regular local membership meeting on April 23 in Chicago.

His death reminded me of the good times that I had as a member of Teamsters 705 and Jerry’s importance in the era when union reform forces had an impact on the Teamsters–but also the disappointment and anger I felt when he switched to supporting James P. Hoffa Junior after decades as a reformer.

The recognition acknowledges UPS’s outstanding commitment to diversity for suppliers as well as employees and customers. Estrella Cramer, Supplier Diversity Director and Chief Procurement Officer Gary Kallenbach, who leads the company’s supplier diversity initiatives, accepted the award on behalf of UPS. NBIC’s Best-of-the-Best Awards ceremony was held on August 26 in Washington, D.C.

FedEx awarded $2.4 billion Dept. of Defense contract – Memphis Business Journal

The five-year, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, fixed-price, next generation delivery service contract was estimated at nearly $2.4 billion. The contract is via the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), which is one of nine commands under the DoD Unified Command Plan.

United Parcel Service Co. (UPS) was also awarded a five-year DoD contract, estimated to be about $2.4 billion.

New York-based Polar Air Cargo Worldwide Inc. received a contract of nearly $200 million.

UPS Unveils First Extended Range Fuel Cell Electric Delivery Vehicle

  • First-of-its-Kind, Zero Tailpipe Emissions, Class 6 Delivery Truck
  • Uses Fuel Cell to Energize Vehicle Propulsion System
  • Prototype to Start Street Testing Later This Year

UPS (NYSE: UPS) today announced it will deploy a prototype extended range Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) in its Rolling Laboratory fleet of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles. UPS is working with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and other partners to design a first-of-its-kind, zero tailpipe emissions, Class 6 medium-duty delivery truck that meets the same route and range requirements of UPS’s existing conventional fuel vehicles.

Unlike fuel cell auxiliary power units, this vehicle will use the onboard fuel cell to generate electricity to propel the vehicle. This project is an important step toward demonstrating the commercial viability of zero tailpipe emissions trucks to fleet operators and the developing FCEV supply chain.
