The big three changes since the last recession are:

  • A strong increase in business-to-consumer, or B2C, e-commerce-based package deliveries as online shopping increases in popularity
  • Customers increasingly prefer cheaper, less time sensitive deliveries over faster, more expensive options.
  • Increasing protectionst trade policies by governments worldwide are causing growth in global trade (trade between countries) to lag domestic GDP growth. This is not great news for transportation companies.

UPS® (NYSE:UPS) is ranked No. 1 on Transport Topics’ Top 50 Logistics Companies in a listing due out today. This marks the sixth time in the last 10 years UPS has landed the top spot.

Fiery UPS Truck Crash On I-580 Near Richmond-San Rafael Bridge In Marin Shuts Down All Lanes – CBS San Francisco

A UPS truck crashed and caught fire on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge in the San Quentin area of Marin County, snarling the Friday morning commute and sending plumes of white smoke into the sky that could be seen for miles.

The driver made it out of the UPS truck safely, according to CHP. No other injuries were reported.

UPS worker’s legs crushed after he’s pinned against delivery truck – NY Post

A UPS worker had one leg torn from his body — and the other nearly severed — when a car crushed him against his delivery truck on Staten Island Monday morning, a witness to the grisly crash told The Post.

The victim — identified by acquaintances as Tom Ryan, of Bayonne, N.J. — was unloading packages when the black Toyota Camry plowed into him in front of Wil John’s Tire Empire at 2044 Hylan Blvd. around 9 a.m., law-enforcement sources said.

“Tom was screaming, one of his legs was laying next to him under the truck,” tire shop mechanic Moe Sattar said.
