On January 2, thousands of aliens lined up at Department of Motor Vehicle offices throughout California. In Sacramento, lines stretched around the block.
DMV anticipates that 1.4 million aliens will eventually apply.
In anticipation of the crush, DMV has opened four new offices and hired 900 additional staff.
But many first-day applicants’ hopes were dashed when they couldn’t pass the written test, even though Hispanics can take the exam in Spanish.
DMV offers the knowledge test in 31 languages.
Several of California’s leading daily newspapers interviewed (in Spanish) applicants who failed their tests.
As one put it, “No one is passing.”

Advocates steadfastly insist that allowing aliens to drive will improve road safety. But early DMV evidence suggests the opposite. When would-be drivers can’t pass the written test in their native language, expecting them to read, understand and obey road signs may be too much of a stretch.

It's not as if California could afford to waste more money on an almost useless pork barrel project. Wouldn't that money be better spent on something that is really needed such as desalinization plants?
The sad part is it's America's taxpayer money too, not just CA.'s

CALIFORNIA breaks ground on HIGH SPEED RAIL! Californians "of working" age welcome the project which will employ tens of thousands of Californians.

Old people will just have to sit back and watch progress move along in the state. Maybe they will have bingo on the new trains to attract "retired" citizens.

Progress? High speed rail is old, slow, expensive and obsolete.
Maybe it's progress to grow government and hike taxes.

Substitute the words "XL Pipeline" for "High Speed Rail" and watch the conundrum ensue. One is a Commie Plot, and the other is a "job creator". Guess which is which for the Right.

Plus, one is environmentally-friendly and one is not. If the pipeline destroys aquifers etc., the costs of clean-up will far exceed any benefits derived.

Exactly.

High speed rail will employ thousands for years to come, but the pipeline to nowhere will only employ some people for a couple of years.

Which is better?
