I guess Eisenhower should never have started the Interstate System. Hasn't shown a profit in over 50 years.

Hard to impossible to quantify the cost/benefits of interstate system. Far more useful than a train to nowhere though.

The trains now....Amtrak and Metrolink run almost riderless and are heavily subsidized by the gov't. I see the trains pass and unless all the riders are ducking down, I only see a head or two on six cars or more.
The people in CA. don't want to give up the cars. They don't even carpool well. Better the bllions of $$$ be spent on roads.

Eisenhower saw the autobahn in Germany and attempted to copy it .
Great way to shift troops around quite quickly .
