All that extra carbon dioxide spewed into the atmosphere by the package cars on Black Friday should contribute enough to global warming to prevent that ice this year.So us working Black Friday is going to prevent ice storms down south.
You mean "the before time" lolWay back in pre-history when I started, we worked the Friday after Thanksgiving. We also got our birthday off. Sometime in the early 80's, we lost our birthday and in exchange got that Friday.
I was lucky, because early on there were enough drivers wanting to work (and later I had enough seniority) that I never again worked that day.
I would of worked 1 year at min wage to hit full scale after that one year. It's all about how quick you get to full scale.Brand new drivers, are making more than drivers who are currently in progression!......friend Hoffa!
Just doesnt seem fair! a new hire will make more than somebody who has been here over a year. the union should have addressed this!..Oh well another Impasse, I guess!...shocking!I would of worked 1 year at min wage to hit full scale after that one year. It's all about how quick you get to full scale.
I'm sure they will be asking us who is open and who's closed. In my building they actually do a good job keeping the kc's off of the car.IN the press release, UPS indicates that we will be paid holiday pay on that friday. It will be something to carry around a ton of packages that cant be delivered because of closures.

Saturday and Sunday have always been an option in the contract. This isn't something new. Revamping the union? They actually woke a lot of sleeping giants up with this contract so sorry but I have to shoot that down. 15 bucks an hour for four years. That's not accurate. 18.75 1st year. 20.75 2nd year. 25 in the 3rd year. Top rate after four years. Not ideal wages I agree it's that four year progression. Don't fall into that misery trap. It not good.Really doesn't come as any surprise. The company does whatever they damn well please. Look at the last 2 contracts. They have completely revamped the union culture in most buildings. They forced most of the older drivers out and now they have the young runners who are thrilled to make $15 an hour for four years. In a few years we will be delivering on Sunday just like the post office started doing.

Yes a lot will bitch but when it comes to it they will take the $99.27 an hour.Keep telling yourself that all the way up to your scheduled start time on Friday.
They will get double time an hour plus the holiday. Their work falls out of article 40 now.I wonder if this will affect PT inside employees. I figure since UPS is making it a regular operating day, that they will run the regular sort(s).
Double time in my hood plus holiday.Where do you see double time?
Its time and a half all day, there will be no 8 hours paid holiday.

That's over now with the ground. Not everyone was paid double time plus Holiday pay. Only drivers. Everyone else was considered Air support and was paid straight time.
How can you ask for that. It's six months away. They have to tell you eight days in advance and vise versa. Here's my delima, I asked for a flouter on that Friday and was denied, my sup said it was double dipping. Anyone else run across this situation? Also open to all comments.
That is what we are all hoping. That's over now with the ground.
you still canDoesn't mean you won't work it. Just means you will get holiday pay.
I don't see this making much difference for Monday. If we make pick ups on Friday it could be even heavier on Monday. This was a huge day for me personally. I'm 4+ hours away from family and often don't get to spend Xmas with them. That 4 day weekend was huge because it meant I could always spend at least that one holiday with my parents.
Yea you and I will make enough coin that day to put a dent in Christmas.Art 15 Sec 4 of the Central Supplement requires doubletime for hours worked with a eight hour guarantee FT, four hour guarantee PT, in addition to the holiday pay.
