What have you seen people lose their jobs for? How to avoid being fired.

We had a FT driver walked off the job in handcuffs during a PCM for income tax evasion. He spent the summer in a country camp type facility and was then allowed to retire. He still lives locally and I see him every now and then.

just out of curiosity, did he have to pay the back taxes or any kind of restitution? And kudos to the company for letting him retire.

Seen more supervisors fired than drivers. Lying about numbers. One driver for stealing boxes of ipods. One for having his brother ship him drugs to his house. He lived on his route. One driver for late nxda. Repeated over and over. We told him many times not to deliver any grounds before 10:30, but he wouldn't listen.
I agree. Seen more managers get the boot. We have a great BA at our building. Only drivers ever fired either stole or unreported accident an accident. We had drivers piss positive, show up drunk, take over 78 sick days, many methods infractions, all not fired. Like I said, you gotta steal or kill someone in our building. Btw, it's a result of years of a great union.

We had a driver fired for coming to work drunk. And it was more than one time. He was paying child support to 3 ex wives so basically was working for nothing. I can understand him being depressed but it was all his own fault.

Heard a center manager got canned for shipping his packages for free. Only sup canned I know was a part timer misses a truck with 20 pickup pieces on it. Also seen one not even suspended for leaving MUCH more than that on a truck. Guess it just depends on how big a woody the center manager has for someone.

I was told multiple times that the only way you could get fired as a part time sup is if you got caught lying, stealing, or :censored2: a coworker. Now, these days that last reason is a grey area....so I'm assuming this guy was lying to the center manager about the missed truck....I honestly can't see a PT sup get fired for JUST one missed truck. Not cool, but not fire-worthy....

Some would say this is the problem with unions.

Bingo.

The fact that he is acting proud of the fact that people with egregious offences like 78 sick days, working drunk, failed piss tests, all got their jobs back. How is that a victory? That should be an embarrassment. I had an employee who stood in the face of a female PT sup yelling at her and lunged his shoulder into her. I quickly took is badge and escorted him outside the building and sent him home. Yes, he got his job back.

I fail to see the success in any of this....

I've seen guys escorted out by FBI agents. One of these instances, a guy was stealing boxes of Wawa gift cards and had a buddy on the outside who was able to activate them. LP and Security had been building a case against these guys and got the federal agents involved.

Dem cameras at every bay door have snagged quite a few people stealing stuff when I was at the hub. PT'ers arrested for eating candy bars from boxes in the trucks. A pick-off was fired (got lucky and wasn't arrested) for stashing a bunch of porn DVDs under a metal flap in the pick-off area and then taking them home.

We had a power outage at our hub years ago....a female driver and a PT'er decided to take advantage of the opportunity and started to get down and dirty in the back of the pacakge car in the pitch black. The FT sup was just so happening to be walking by that exact package car when the lights cut back on.....not sure if either one got their jobs back.

A feeder driver was fired from a center when he got caught taking pictures of a PT sup's booty when she was bending over. It was a disposeable camera and when it was confiscated, there were 20-something photos of her rear....he said he was taking pictures of load quality or some BS like that. He got his job back fairly quickly, but they moved him to a different center. As an aside, this female PT sup who he was taking pictures of......dayum. Only time I'd kick her out of bed is if she wanted to friend* on the floor. Was a bad decision on his part, but at least it was a quality target....lol...

Why was she always bent over? She must have been handling packages. He should have said he was documenting management working. You have to think quick when caught! Package drivers all know how to get out of a sticky situation when caught sneaking a peak. Glad to hear he wasn't fired.

She wasn't "always" bent over....but all of the pictures were from the 'backside'. It was clear what the intention of the pictures were.....

But to add to this particular story......The ironic spin on all of this, was that this girl ended up getting fired about a year later. She was dating a part-time hourly and things went south with their relationship. So the hourly got pissed off and decided to report the pictures of her nipple rings that she sent him on his phone. Funny, eh?

Some would, but you cannot be perfect on every method 100% of the time. It's impossible. Anyone that says they are perfect everyday everything is not telling the truth. Should people lose their jobs because they were 99%? That's still an A+. A wide receiver doesn't get cut if he misses a catch now and then. Neither should a driver.

We aren't talking about 99% on methods. We are talking about drugs, being drunk and incredible number of missed days. Not even a close comparison.

It's a contractual issue that UPS afford help to a substance abuse program. As far as the sick calls, UPS only addresses the issue when they are "understaffed". When we are up drivers everyday, attendance isn't an issue. The unions fault? Trust me, I try to get everyone to work everyday. It increases earning potential.

Way before my time - we had a driver beat up a center manager after the center manager got in another driver's face....who was his wife! The drivers met as part timers and got married after they went driving. She still works for UPS. He got fired.

Had a center manager who was having an affair with a female driver and when his wife found out, she called UPS and got him fired. The female driver is now in mgmt and has been married to that center manager for over 20 yrs.

50 year old female PTer in the unload, got fired for stealing Victoria's Secret. Security was onto her and put blue dye powder inside the case. They had her on camara stealing the "wares". They followed her into womens rest room and caught her trying to wash the dye off her hands with possesion of the stolen "goods". She was arrested and fired. There is a difference between not being 100% all of the time, and showing up drunk or taking 78 sick days.
