Lieutenant Buttigieg served his country as a Navy intelligence officer in Afghanistan 5 years ago. Why do you and the cartoonist hate America?
Heard he spent 6 months in a protected area working as a driver for a senior officer. But it does look good on a resume huh?

"n 2009 Buttigieg became an ensign in the Navy Reserve and trained to become a naval intelligence officer. He deployed to Afghanistan for seven months in 2014.[30][31][32] While deployed, Buttigieg was part of a unit assigned to identify and disrupt terrorist finance networks. Part of this was done at Bagram Air Base, but he also worked as an armed driver for his commander on over 100 trips into Kabul. Buttigieg has jokingly called this role "military Uber", because he had to watch out for ambushes and explosive devices along the roads and make sure the vehicle was guarded."

Say what you want about the Buttigieg's policies, but I'm not going to smilet on the service of a guy who had to watch out for ambushes and IEDs on his driving route. That qualifies as 100% for real in my book.

He may be overstating his role in Afghanistan . Officers do not perform 100 plus missions as armed duty drivers. especially someone like Pete who had the most basic of military training. that's what we have trained enlisted men for. Think about it. if you're a flag officer do you want an experienced combat enlisted providing your security or some lightly trained finance officer. If even one of those 100 plus missions had resulted in some type of conflict type mission then the chances are he would have the appropriate medal for it. his decorations are the bare minimum for that service. his records do not show that he ever left the perimeter of his compound.

"Military officials say Buttigieg received standard medals and decorations for a member who served overseas in the war on terror, such as the Afghanistan Campaign Medal for service in a combat zone, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and citations for rifle and pistol marksmanship."

for those of us who have served it appears he's more of a resume server. He joins up . goes for seven months. get his ticket stamped , enhances his resume but was really not in a position to ever effectively improve our military standing in that arena. Vietnam era veterans are often particularly sensitive to this type of service and was one of the reasons we did not do better in Vietnam. too many resume servers doing their six month rotation to get their ticket stamped . no commitment to long term success in the officer ranks.

Documents provide glimpse into Buttigieg's military service

at the same time he still deserves some recognition. he took a chance by going there. he could have had some bad guy find him behind the concertina wire and taken him out. Afghanistan has had its share of rogue acts by the guys that are supposed to be fighting on our side.

and to his credit he did go so that he could at least claim the rights of being a veteran . that's more then most of his competition in this race can say. too me the fact he just completed his service two years ago shows this was part of his plan to run for higher office

That's rich coming from you, considering you were a medic during peace time.

I didn’t know you got to choose where you go and what you are going to do when you enlist. I thought there was a more formal organizational structure where enlisted men took orders. Learn something new everyday.
